The B3s does indeed spin for counter rotation (one prop clockwise, one counter clockwise.)
Even a singe engine boat with contra rotating props will track straight, no prop steering at all.

Oh no, can't do that......

38fountained 03-23-2015 12:25 PM

Michael the question is should both be turning in the same direction, as in my case both to port, closest to transom...

38fountained , there is a guy on Long Island NY, that is very knowledgeable, his name is Mark. You can easily get in touch with him. He is a welder in West Babylon. Lol. :

I have never come across B3s that turn different directions on the inner prop.
That would mean that there would be two types of props available for each pitch, witch there isn't.

He knows nothing!!!!

38fountained 03-23-2015 03:13 PM

Thanks Michael, that makes sense and that would mean they all rotate one way and that would be to "port"..or "

Fountains spin the props to create maximum lift. My guess the stern most prop will be the one to do this. Can someone with a newer 38 EC and bravo 3s check theirs to see?

Something I've noticed is with a notched transom, the engine in reverse pushes the water forward and it hits the back end of the notch. The water pushing against the notch and effectively pushing the boat forward does negate to some extent, the reverse thrust of that engine. Tilting the drives up a little will force the waterflow downward slightly and below the transom notch, will help a bit.

I know, outboards on a cc is a completely different boat but the basic principles are the same.

Props are designed for maximum efficiency in forward gear so you'll always need a few more revs on the reverse engine. Turning your steering in the direction of the turn also helps.
