Anyone know this red 12 meter?

http://youtu.be/lEzWUeJZe44
Found this old video, looks like a no cabin 12 meter. Did it really do 90 with 575's? Heard some mixed reviews on weights and speeds of these boats. Heard 90+ with 800's and heard 75-78 with 750's?

Crude Intentions 03-29-2015 05:33 PM

Sweet video and that thing is turning sharp. For a rough reference bill has a 91 42 which is the same hull. His is full cabin with blown 454s. I believe guesstimated 600+. Never been dynoed. It's an upper 70s boat thru trs all day. So 90 with 800s isn't out of the question.

Unlimited jd 03-29-2015 05:57 PM

Good that's what I'm hoping for in mine with stripped cabin and minimal accessories

Crude Intentions 03-29-2015 06:04 PM

Joe on here mild thunder posted an article of an old 12 meter with turbo motors. Believe somewhere around 800 and ran pretty good.

Unlimited jd 03-29-2015 06:38 PM

Yeah I've also heard not to believe weight or speed claims from North Carolina lol. He posted it on another one of my threads, and sent it to me

Crude Intentions 03-29-2015 08:47 PM

To be honest I've seen enough evidence to back up most claims from there. People call em light but when put on scales they aren't as light as most think. Most speed numbers are accurate, granite the test nbers are done with no gear and light on fuel they are attainable. Lol

I drove that exact boat when I was 15 years old with Reggie throttling. I recall the boat running 90 mph. I'm pretty sure this boat became the executioner race boat. I saw Reggie at a few races the following year with this boat getting in the minimum starts to qualify for Key West. He treated me like I was going to buy this boat when I went to the factory, and spent the day with me doing factory testing, going out for lunch and dinner, and touring the factory. I will always respect Reggie for doing that, and have owned many Fountains over the years.

The red fountain executioner race boat was a 33

hogie roll 03-29-2015 11:10 PM

Dang look at how hard he can turn that thing.

Great story. Reggie was a tireless promoter of his product. 20 yrs ago, I bought a 4 yr old 10 Meter ICBM that Reggie had originally sold to the guy that built several of the buildings at the Fountain plant. Right after I bough the boat, I drove down and took a tour of the factory. Reggie treated me like a long lost friend and we got the royal treatment and were shown the entire operation. For years, and to this day, if I see Reggie at a show, he always shakes my hand and says "hello Kurt" as a salesman myself, I can appreciate him remembering my name. I've always had huge respect for Reggie and I'm sure there will never be another like him. BTW, I had the original Fountain Test Report for my ICBM, the speeds listed were right on the money.

FWIW, I've been a Cigarette owner for the last 15 yrs, when I walk into the Cig booth at a show, I feel like I'm the guy looking in the back lot for a used Pinto...

I do have to say I was treated very well at the cig factory. I've heard many great things about the way Reggie treated his customers, love him or hate him you have to respect that.

that's bad azz.crazy how those old straight bottom fountains can turn.

12meter joe 03-30-2015 04:23 PM

For reference when my 12 meter had 496 strokers making 550ish the boat ran 73-74 all day long.

Joe any idea what yours weighs? Everything I find is 86-8800 dry

For a 12 meter? That sounds like the early 10 meter.

Last 35 staggards were 9600-9800.

FWIW, the spec sheet on my 10 Meter listed it at 7500 dry. It sure felt a lot heavier than that, especially when towing..

Reggie said the 35's were 4 tons of fun about 8,000 lbs

Honestly I personally never weighed my boat but, I'm sure it's closer to the 10,000 mark with some fuel and average boating crap.

12meter joe 03-31-2015 03:40 PM

I just looked at my survey and it says 8500 dry so that must be what it was listed as new. I don't buy it but I don't really care either.

Crude Intentions 03-31-2015 06:12 PM

Just remember dry is empty tanks and before a lot of other stuff is added. No gear. On the older boats no swim platform. Interiors not as fancy. Couple thousand pounds easily in all that.

Trying to figure out how light I can keep mine. There is nothing in the cabin, i removed even the radio compartment, the bathroom or at least I think it was, etc. I'm trying to think of everything I can leave out to save weight. Using bam's calculator I found the constant for joes boat at 8800 lbs and applied it at 8200 lbs and 1600 total hp, says 94 mph hope that's close!

That was right were I was running with a standard cabin layout , carrying just under 9000# and then my bravo's started to explode.

SS930 04-01-2015 08:37 AM

Make the power, prop it correctly, get the drives up where they need to be, and you'll have no problem at all breaking 90.

It will be interesting to see what it weighs in at once completed.

Question, are the hatches fairly light, or is there a good opportunity to shave some weight there?

Unlimited jd 04-01-2015 11:34 AM

Haven't seen the hatches in person yet. Getting race hatches from a guy when he comes out to pick up his trailer

MILD THUNDER 04-02-2015 06:20 AM

FWIW, my 1990 38, with #4's, and my 1997 dually, weighed 19,500, with no fuel in the boat on a cat scale. I then weighed the truck empty, truck was right at 7000lbs. Myco says my 1989 MTR36 trailer to weight 2700LBS. so, 19,500-7000-2700=9800lbs for the boat with no fuel. Boat had maybe 1/8 tank when I weighed it, and pretty empty for coming out of storage. So, summer, full tanks of fuel at 220 gallons, a few people on boat, some coolers, I'd say 11,000+ all day for just the boat. I wish it weighed 8500-9000 lbs.

12meter joe 04-03-2015 05:29 PM

Damn! That's a 1000 more than I thought! Time to get rid of unessacary things like, passanger seats, registration stickers, cleats, ropes, life jackets, fire extinguishers, all safety items, non alcohol beverages, and I guess all the bikini bottoms in the vee birth.

Biggus 04-04-2015 07:32 AM

For comparison, my old Top Gun weighed 11,300 lbs with a 1/4 tank. - I weighed the entire truck/trailer boat, splashed the boat and the re-weighed the truck & trailer to get this figure.
