They still have a great hull, with a few tweaks in the cockpit, change the swim platform design, update the interior, you would have something to compete with outerlimits and cigarette. Not sure what price point it would be.
If it were me, I would invest in the 42 lightning redesign and debut it at miami. It would definitely create some awareness for the brand and possibly give it some life

Unfortunately, I think the sun has set on the Fountain brand as far as new boats are concerned, as much as that pains me to say. I don't know anyone that would pay the price tag on a build-to-order Fountain sport boat at this point. Fountain is just not the same without Reggie.

Agreed.
It'd be like buying a brand new shelby cobra/mustan/gt40......after carroll's death. Some things will never be the same.
If reggie still built boats, it'd be my next.
If I could afford to order a brand new boat.....today....it'd be a 50 nor-tech.
reality is a 10 year old 47 lightning, or a formula 370 ss is my next

Do you think the lack of sales has anything to do with the million dollar price tag, they want for a new 42.

The current list prices on the website are sobering and the cost of entry in this day and age regardless of manufacturer is high. But, is it coincidental that sales went to basically nonexistent when RF left? I think that is this missing ingredient.

There was a pretty loyal following that had the means to upgrade regularly. Even dealers bailed.

Just my 2 cents on the dealers. I think they were protecting their business when Fountain was struggling at the end of Reggie's reign. It was a mess and they didn't want to deal with customer service issues from the factory. They had to get new brands in or they would go under. Does anyone know what Powerboat Headquarters business model is for offshore boats? Are their dealers or factory direct? Most boats that are being built in that price range are cats. I think the market has shifted to cats and CC's.

During the years leading up to Reggies departure, economic times were about as bad as it gets for high end luxury toys. All manufacturers must have suffered and with the problems at Fountain, I'm sure they suffered more than anyone.

Fast fwd to present day, Reggie may not be there but is the product the same, better, or worse? Why should the name at the factory matter? Isn't the name on the hull still worth buying? I know the factory must also prove they are up to scratch with quality and service back up but aren't they currently doing that with their other lines? Building a few Bajas, Pro Lines and maybe some Donzis, that should be enough to measure the factory's ability to build quality boats and service customer needs. The founders of many great boat names are no longer running the business but if the boats were any good in the first place (Fountains proved they were) there's no reason they shouldn't be able to re-establish and keep building under new ownership.

As I said previously, if I had the spare cash, I'd be ordering a new Fountain today.
