Default 42 Lightning 525-575 Bravo versus NXT with 700's

Based on what I am seeing a 42L with Bravo set up is running $80-100K less than similar NXT set ups with 700's....... I would expect that the 525's would push it to around 85 mph versus 700's at around 100 mph?

I really want more than just 525's but not sure I want to spend the $$$$ at this time..... Any opinions on this?

Also has anyone taken a standard Bravo setup and upgraded to SCX drives and more power... maybe 800-900 HP??? If so how did this work out?

Trying to debate best approach without being short sited.....

do a 42L with 525's, add whipples and Teague uppers. Should be pretty reliable for much less money. The whipple is a very easy addition from what I have been told and can be taken off down the road. Personally, I am rebuilding my 525's back to stock in the hopes of getting mostly trouble free boating.

My last boat 42 Lightning had full stagger around 970 hp each ran standard SCX upper & sportmaster lowers and then went to SCX-4s with # 6 props it worked great and had been to 119 . With the SCX upper sportmaster lower with maximus props it ran 115 @ 6000 .

That sounds very nice..... What is the hull changes by year? Think I read that 2004- are same and 1999-2004 was different step?

I think your kind of stuck in the middle like a lot of us. Whipples and scx's are going to cost 50-60k. Your getting closer to the stock 700 boat. I think the stock boat will have better resale down the road so it's a tough call.

Agree with resale and cost... Was thinking would keep the stock drives and motor and build/purchase others... If/when going to sell I would put back!

Not 100% sure would ever upgrade just trying to cover all my basis!
