Default 475 turbo motor history?

Hi Guys. I just purchased a 1980 scarab that has twin turbocharged big blocks hooked to speedmaster II outdrives. I was told that Reggie Fountain had a hand in developing these for Mercruiser. I am looking for information as to what parts are in these motors and if anyone knows a little history on this motor/outdrive package. I posted a thread in the scarab section about this. I really appreciate any info anyone can give me
Thanks
Pat

Here's a picture of the motors

Have you tried to call Fountain himself? If he did have a hand in them, I bet he would enjoy talking about them.

Pat: If unable to reach Reggie himself, ask for Robert Toller. He is very helpful in digging up info from the past since he has been with Reggie since day 1. Also try Gale Lane ext#6290, she also is very helpful when looking for past info. I have one of the 5 original 1989 10 MTR executioners called " PhaseV turbo" They came from the factory with the side rear vents being double stacked so there was ample room to service the outside turbo's after the vents were removed. Great idea, something you may want to consider doing on your Scarab. These boats also came with Merc SSM#4 drives on Merc extension boxes and a blueprinted rocker style bottom hull. My boat was originally sold to Jim Whittington, a preacher from the east coast. Reggie used his boat as Fountains test boat. It was the first one made. I have a copy of the 1st out test report thanks to Gale & Robert. 74 deg. 1-2 ft chop 527 cu. in.twin turbo est. 675HP 1.5 ratio SSM#4 17.5X34X4 blade Merc props, Max RPM 4900, top speed 104 radar. !st time out!!! 1989!!! After several changes to the bottom, raising the X dimension, Moving the engine forward 10 inches, Oh can't forgrt to mention 4 eng combos later (Gentry twin turbo 950's) Reggie and Robert set the 1989 speed KILO record in Sarasota Fla. Robert drove the boat. If you get to talk to him, ask him about the "Preacher boat" he remembers this one well!

Sorry, forgot to say the results, 117.8MPH. I was able able to contact Jim Whittington the preacher last year and tell him I had his old 10MTR. We talked on the phone for hours as he informed me of all the history behind this boat. He also sent me more magazine articles and other write ups documenting the speed it ran and the work and $$$$$$$$$$ that was put into it Glad I did'nt have to write that check!!!!!!

10X,

I remember that boat well and followed the progress with great interest as I was a 10M ICBM owner at the time.

Quite a while back someone here on the GD board put a post up wondering how fast a 10M would go with 650-700hp and I mentioned the numbers you had posted...many people called out bull$hit! ha ha ha

Great stuff!

How about a few pics?

Kurt

Pat-

You have a little slice of history under your engine hatch. I am somewhat of a pack rat and I think that I still have the motor specs for that pkg. Give me a call and I will be glad to help.
