Raddle in the swim platform??

A New raddle appeared in the swim platform does any one know how to fix it. I thought it was the engine hatch and i replaced the hinges but that did not do it. Please help.

I have seen this happen on a Baja, the solution is

1. Remove ladder, what my friend did

2. Or wedge a small towel in there to hold everything tight

;)

We have no ladder so that can not be it but thanks anyway.

Johnny,

Sorry I assumed you had the integrated platform:crazy: I would say check you headers and all the bolts in the engine comp:rolleyes:

What size boat?
Silent choice?
Weather stripping for engine hatch seal missing or out of location? > engine hatch rubbing against engine
compartment opening drain ledge.

At what rpm do you hear this?

Good question

I had a very annoying rattle at low rpm's. Found out it was the integral exhaust flappers for the silent choice thru the props had worn out the bushing and were just a rattling away.

Hope that might help

US1 I have a 32 with silent choice along with stripping, and 4 play dave the raddle occurs only at idle. I sounds like maybe the platform is raddling where the top and bottom of the boat is attached. Thanks for the help guys

Exhaust flappers!!!!

Drove me nuts, thought I had a serious problem.

If you can get to them, wedge something in there to hold them open, fire it up, and see if rattle is gone.

worked for me!!!

rchevelle Thanks alot that sounds right. I can not wait to try it when it gets a little warmer. Does that mean new flaps are necessary.

I kinda thought it was a 32 with silent choice. Hence my questioning. ;)

Anyways, it is the nature of the beast. All 32's do this. It is because the 32's sit so low in the back, that the exhaust tips are trapped in an air pocket underwater under the swim platform. It is not the exhaust flappers. What you are feeling/hearing is the exhaust pulses trying to escape from the sealed pocket by blowing past the swimplatform at the water line. It only does it at idle or while at idleing speed and with the silent choice in loud mode. You have to go fast enough to break the sealed air pocket to get the rattleing to go away. Or run in quiet mode at idle. Mine sounds like the hole boat is about to come apart, so I ALWAYS switch to quiet and exhaust thru the drives. Nothing you can do about it.

Now if it happens while in quiet mode, then it is the valves in the y-pipe. My last 27 used to have a rattle at idle. Sounded like a lifter ticking. Valves were new too.

Rattle

Mine did this. Just only the flappers in my case.
