Unhappy trying to get to 100!!!

I have a 2003 38 Lightning with staggered 575's (upgraded to 690 hp) and XR drives w/ imco lowers. Over the winter we puchased a set of 6 blade 31 pitch Herrings with hopes of getting to 100 and also added the imco lower cases. On Saturday I got to run the boat and it only went 96. We had done 97 last year with a set of 5 blade hydromotives and no imco lowers, just standard xr lower cases. Does anyone have any suggestions on some things that could be done or props that would be best! I plan on calling herring and getting thier takes on things too. Maybe some 5 blades would be better. Any suggestions????

Hello Josh;

I will place a call into Jeff Harris tomorrow and see if he has any suggestions for you.

It was good seeing you and your dad this past saturday at the lake. Let me know the next time you will be up there and I will meet the two of you and we can go play with the MTI.

BTW, I placed my order today on another 42 Lightning.

This one will have the new step bottom, yellow gel, race fairing, triple bolsters in the rear, garmin etc. The big difference between this one and the purple boat will be the new bottom and a light poker run cabin.

I plan on putting 1250 HP Cobras in this one and hope to see the high 130's.

Eddie,
I would really appreciate that! It was good to see you too. I will definately give you a call next time we are gonna be down. Hopefully it will be soon. Let me know if you find out anything. About the 42, that is going to be awsome! You'll have to give me a ride so that i'll have something else to rag on dad about.

Johnnyboatman,
those hydromotives were 32 pitch!

Do you have a diffuser ring on the herrings?

The old boat was fantastic. Can't wait to see the new one. Are you going custom graphics?

Had a similar outcome on my 42 Fountain with labbed 4 blades. Switched from standard XR lowers to -2 Sportmasters. The boat handled better but lost mph at cruise and top end. Did you try 4 blades and what was the outcome? I'm interested in 5 blades but have not seen many compelling comments over the labbed 4 blades. Interested to see Herring's reply to you.

Step,
I ran a set of bravo's and got 95 out of it. those were 34 pitch and were not labbed. also we didn't have the imco cases on yet either. In the past i have broken 2 differents sets of labbed 32's so i'm kind of trying to stay away from those.

Jonas,
We put superchiller innercoolers on, upped the boost to 7-8 lbs., and upped the rev. limiter to 5600. Dyno sheets read 689 hp. at 5600 rpm.
