29' with 500HP
#1
Hi guys,
I have a friend with a 1996 29' with a 502MPI.
When he first bought the boat, she ran 64-65mph.
Last year he added Stainless Marine exhaust and a high flow spark arrester.
This year he removed the water tank, sink, and cabinet to lighten her up.
With a 24p Bravo, engine rpm is up to 5200, so he switch the prop for a 26p. Now the engine runs 4800...
We did a little dueling yesterday and my gps had us at 68mph.
We B.S. about what to do next like all boaters do.
Now for my questions:
How fast with 500HP?
If he goes for 500HP, will the stock Bravo drive hold together?
How fast with 600HP?
If he goes for 600HP, which drive is the best upgrade?
What is the best prop for this boat?
Thanks,

I have a very comparable boat - a 1996 29 with HP500. I currently have a 24P Hydromotive on her and get 68-69 on GPS at 5150 with one person and most of a tank of fuel. (At least, that's what she did before the head gasket failed last year.) The rebuild is finally broken in and a host of smaller problems fixed, so I will get you more up to date info after this weekend.
