EXACTLY!! Problem is...unless you and I can get together and design the newest computer operating system, chances are we are going to live our lives well but still not do or buy everything that we want. We stretch our means to the limits or there about, in order to acquire the things that we think we need or deserve. That is what puts people in the position of owing $200k on a $160k boat. I did finance for a car dealership for 15 years and the #1 reason for people not being able to trade was "upside-downess". Consumers have carried their inequity from car deal to car deal with limited or no money down. Relying on their credit to get them into the vehicle that they thought they needed or deserved for working hard.
Reality is...boats are purchased for entertainment not for invesments. Granted it is expensive entertainment. Tell me this...how many times have any of you been blowing down your favorite body of water at 85 MPH thinking about your payoff??!! Is it lgoical to invest that kind of money knowing that you are going to lose? NO! Will we continue to do it? YES! We deserve it!! (just my half a nickel worth)

I just try to buy (finance) so the closeout at 2,3, or 5 years (on the fat front end) is a number that would be very competitive for a quick sale if things go to he11. I don't care about the cash I put in the deal, the trailer, or other out of pockets into it...kiss all that good bye. If I get into trouble, I just need to get out of the note in an attempt to save my credit.
You've got to crunch alot of numbers, do some research, be honest with yourself about used value, and consider the worst-case scenario.
