35 (Single step) owners -speed#'s

I'm curious as to what other 35 Fountain owners are getting for top speed & what power & props are you running? I'm currently having my HP500's rebuilt for my '99 35 Classic. Aiming for 550-575 hp & hoping to run mid 80's? Best run end of summer was 78 GPS (a bit on the slow side -tired motors) (28 labbed B1's turning in) whats everyone else running??

I am buying a 97 model from Dallasboats, and on my demo run we hit 83.1on my handheld gps, boat was at lake Texoma, both tanks almost full, two people on board, with some gear, boat has been repowered with 500efi's by Leon Derebery, has ext. boxes, 1.36 bravo drives with nose cones, and had 24? pitch Hydro props spinning in. we were turning 5550 rpm's [right at rev limiter] the props had no markings on them they were polished, guy said he thought they were 24 pitch.

H2X - congrats on the Fountain purchase - those are good #'s - How you like it compared to your Baja? I traded up from a 32 Sunsation at the end of the season.

2000 with carbed 500s. 27" Hydros turning in. 80 mph gps. We've never really let the boat run to try and eek out a max speed so there might be a little more there.

I really liked the fountain, a nice step up from a 29 Baja, I had also bought the baja from Trent at www.dallasboats4sale.com I should take delivery on the 35 on Feburary 5th. my loan is a go and already have an insurance binder on it. Next item to take care of is changing my avatar :D

I made the switch to a Fountain from a Baja. My Baja buddies were just jealous.
'04 Lightning w/ 525's, XR drives, 1.5g, 32p Bravo (no lab) 92 on GPS.

From what I hear, a change to 1.36 gearing with sport master lowers and the right props could net another 5 to 7 MPH???????? Does that sound right?

Marginmn 01-31-2005 04:53 PM

Re: 35 (Single step) owners -speed#'s

That sounds realllllllllllllllllly optimistic. If Reggie's 35 could run close to 100 mph with stock 525's I believe you would see a 20 page ad on the subject in Power Boat Magazine. 92 on GPS with 525's is just super.

Re: 35 (Single step) owners -speed#'s

I don't want to... but I think you're right. The cost to make those changes will be around $8K+. It would be dissapointing to spend the $ for nothing. Even if it did work I'm still shy of 100. I think I'll wait and just enjoy my boat this summer.

Sounds like a cool boat, the new double step hulls are great, maybe after a couple years I might step up again

H2xMark, i was at Derebery the day you and Trent were testing i think. I had the big solid white tub that you guys were saying looked so big. At least i think that was the day you were there. That is a very nice boat plus the brand new trailer.

I have been in a single step 35 with twin 675hp's. It ran right at 100 mph.

Kinda missed that 550 mark by a bit, eh? How disappointing :D

Mine did 83.5 with 525hp@5200 last year with 28 Quad IV Hydros. My motors just dyno'ed last week north of 600hp, and I'm also curious what prop adjustments I'll need to make. I'm running with no steps.

I'm guessing that you'll be good for 87-88mph with 625hp@5400. 28 or 29 labbed Hydros are worth trying. Fountains carry their bow well on their own, and the Hydro is a good stern lifting prop. This combo loosens up the whole boat out of the water, for good speed results. Again, I'm speaking from no-step experience.

Have fun! Sounds like you're going to have a totally different boat this year.

Cheers,
Brian

2005 35 Ex (Single Step)
Twin 525 EFI's
Bravo XR 1.5 ratio
32 Pitch Bravo I Props
90 MPH at 5150 RPM on Gps

13.5% slip factor with Bravo I Props
8% slip factor with Maximus Props

Just ordered 32 pitch labbed Maximus Props. Merc Racing says I will see 3-4 MPH gain on top end 7-10 MPH on cruise. Alot of dough ($1500 each) but if it works it will be worth every penny.

I was thinking the same thing. Time to go boat shopping. :drink: Dose anyone know if Fountain has that stupid territory deal still going with their dealers. I don't like the idea of having one dealership to shop at. Last I heard an out of area dealer has to pay commission to the dealer in the buyers living area. :( Anyone know if that is still true?
Dan

Marginmn 03-24-2005 08:37 PM

Re: 35 (Single step) owners -speed#'s

I am pretty sure they do have that deal. The lowest pricing I have found was from Pier 57. When I told them where I lived they said they would have to pay a fee to our local dealer here but even with that their pricing was better than others.

HPFountain 03-25-2005 09:05 AM

Re: 35 (Single step) owners -speed#'s

That is true. But it is to protect the consumer. If they sell you a boat and are willing to service you they don't have to pay the commission. The problem is there are dealers out there that are landlocked and selling boats really cheap, they don't even have a real service department some of them.

Unfortunately it could make it hard to get the right deal. :( A Friend just bought a new 42' from Raymond's because the local dealer was high on his price. Luckily he had a residence down in the Ozarks and was allowed to buy the boat at the right price.

If you don't like the local dealer you have to pay more or buy a different brand of boat??? I don't get that. It's not a good business practice.

With 32 Bravo I props

3500 RPM = 70 MPH
5000 RPM = 92 MPH

2005 35 Ex (Single Step)
Twin 525 EFI's
Bravo XR 1.5 ratio
