Info Thread / Roll Call for January 31 / 09 Fun Run to Naples Bay Resort

Jan. 31, 2009 Fun Run to Naples Bay Resort, Naples, FL

Welcome to our 4th fun run of the season. We will assemble at the south side of the Sanibel Bridge departing for Naples at 11:00 AM. We have an exciting new destination, the Yacht Club at Naples Bay Resort. The Yacht Club is a private, however FMO, Inc. secretary, Tom Cullen has arranged for our group to be his guest. Thank you Tom (OSO megabyte*3).

If you are able to join us, please post up here on OSO on either this thread or e mail me at bobthebuilder(at)rogers.blackberry.net. Also since we are now formally a Club, and this is a sanctioned club event we ask that you complete your membership application by going to www.ftmyersoffshore.org and download the membership form if you have not already done so. You may either mail it in or submit at our lunch at Naples Bay Resort.
If your boat is down for service or repair and you feel like driving to NBR and joining us for lunch, Club members are most welcome to do so. Remember a social membership is only $35.00 and boaters membership is $60 and covers the family. It is always very social and a good time. Please let me know as the Yacht Club at NBR is asking for a head count. The address is: 1500 5th Ave; South, Naples.

This run is a designated fund raising event: FMO is committed to 2 fund raising events per year with the others being “no charge”. We are asking for a “donation” of $50 to $100 per boat at the Captain’s discretion. As a donation, you will be eligible for a tax receipt which will be issued in due coarse. Donations will be collected at the lunch stop. ( Please note that 2008 tax receipts will be e mailed out to everyone by the end of Jan. 2009 )

Route: From the Sanibel Bridge we will run straight shot south for Naples and into Naples Bay via Gordon Pass. While we will spread out on the Gulf, we will need to run single file on Naples Bay. Some areas of the Bay will be idle zone and some will be 30 MPH.
Note to Marco and Naples boats. You are welcome to join me for the run up to the Sanibel Bridge to meet the main group of boats. I will leave Marco at 10 am and pass by Gordon Pass at 10:10 AM on the way north.

Lunch:The Yacht Club is putting on a great lunch buffet in a club room for our exclusive use. Cost is $26.00 per person, and includes 3 entree’s, salads, ice tea / lemonade and desert. Payable directly to the NBR on arrival.

50 / 50 draw: At lunch we will be selling raffle tickets. 100 % of the proceeds will go into the FMO scholarship fund. In October, Ben and Carrie Payne won enough to fill the gas tank on their boat! Our winner at the New Years Day run was Don & Amanda Gardiner where they took home $400.00
Support your Club, and the good work we are trying to do.

After Lunch: While the officially sanctioned run ends at Naples Bay Resort, a number of boats will likely go over to the beach at Keewaydin Island after lunch. All are welcome.

Fuel / Distance: From the Sanibel Bridge to Gordon Pass it is about 30 miles each way. It is about another 8 miles up the Bay to Naples Bay Resort. If going down to Keewaydin Island is in your plans, that is about 15 miles south of NBR.
Most vessels will have sufficient range for this run if they are full of fuel at the start.

Communications: Inter boat communication to be on VHF channel 72. Also My cell is 239-776-0481. Anyone dropping out after the start should let me know so we do not spend time waiting or looking for you. Leave a voice mail if no answer.

Pictures: Jay (OSO / FMO Jayboat) will be aboard Team PREDATOR, so make sure you come alongside for some great running shots of your boat as we head south to Naples. They will be posted on the forum and website, after the run.
In addition it is my understanding that Freeze Frame Photography will again be shooting this run from the helicopter.

We are in.

Looking at the future events we are planning the PRA runs in both St Pete and Ft Myers. Also the FPC Sanibel Harbor event.

FYI

This Saturday January 10th we are planning to run up to Captiva or Burnt Store for lunch. More than welcome if you want to run up and have lunch. Two Skaters so far. This will not be a sight seeing tour.

Looking forward to my first run with FMO. We will probably be 6 or 7.

Maybe we can get some of those hot FMO photos of the boat but this will have to do for now.

Hey, Dennis. You are going to have a busy schedule. Nice. I have not figured out yet which of those PRA / FPC runs I will do yet. I like the St Pete's run. Kinda feel like I should support Stu's Sanibel run.

See you soon. :)

Bob,

Lunch:The Yacht Club is putting on a great lunch buffet in a club room for our exclusive use. Cost is $26.00 per person, and includes 3 entree’s, salads, ice tea / lemonade and desert. Payable directly to the NBR on arrival.

Can this by by business check, and is this the total cost, including tip and tax?

Fuel / Distance: From the Sanibel Bridge to Gordon Pass it is about 30 miles each way. It is about another 8 miles up the Bay to Naples Bay Resort. If going down to Keewaydin Island is in your plans, that is about 15 miles south of NBR.
Most vessels will have sufficient range for this run if they are full of fuel at the start.

So its 8 miles back down Naples Bay, and another 7-8 South to Keewaydin, right?

OK so for me 60 miles to Sanibel Bridge
30 miles to Gordon pass
8 miles up Naples Bay
8 miles down Naples Bay
8 miles down to Keewaydin
38 miles back to Sanibel Bridge
60 miles back to my dock
-------
212 miles or so

I'm in.

Boating is like sex: grandeous plans and expectations but the equipment is not up to the task. Hopefully everything will be running.

Your my kinda boater Frank !! LOL That will be a big day of boating. Your mileage calcs are right.

FMO Tom Cullen is making the lunch arrangements and he will confirm they will take a check and to whom payable. My recollection is that the $26.00 included tax but tip may be on top. We will confirm the info in the days ahead.

Bobthebuilder 01-09-2009 01:11 PM

Interesting. 6 of the first 7 boats registered so far did not do the New Years Day run. Looks like we are going to see some new hardware !! Looking forward to that. :)

Gee Dennis, I was told that driving a Skater was better than sex. Must be a disinformation campaign ...

Wow- that thing is gorgeous. Love the tinted gauges!

Here's another angle of Craig's Donzi and one of The Menace since it's been so long we forgot what it looks like. :cool-smiley-027:

If so lets 'cruise' to the starting point together, let me know.

Welcome back, Tom. You had spread the word to a number of others who came to the New Years Day run. Thank you for that and let them all know we would like to see them all back including the Concepts that showed up. Looks like we will have a large enough group for fast and not so fast paceboats. 50 MPH cruise work fine at the low end. :)

Rock. If no one offers you a seat you might get some great shots if you are on the Naples pier with a telephoto lens. I'm fully committed seat wise so can't help with that.
You may want to consider making out a club membership application by going to www.ftmyersoffshore.org , click on membership in the left column and download the membership form. Send it in, or complete and bring along to the lunch stop where you can introduce yourself and get to know the members.
all the best,
Bob

I'll keep it in mind.

I'll have to give Jay a call and see if it would even be possible for me to snag a ride if anyone has a seat open.

The photos would mostly just end up being for my own pleasure and to post up on here for others to see. I wouldn't be interested in selling them. I can't keep all of my photography work organized already as it is. :D

I just really love boats and anything that has a big engine and goes fast, count me in! This is right up my alley.

If I can get a ride out of it and attend the meet to do photos I'm in heaven. I've never been to any runs or on any crazy boats so I couldn't even imagine.

If anyone has a vacant spot I'd love to take them up on it. If not, no worries!

- Chris

Maritime_Eng 01-11-2009 07:16 PM

Well, Amanda and I are not going to make the run. I had a major engine melt down today on the Motion. Our boat will be down for a few months. I am going to concentrate my efforts on the Diesel. Hope everyone has a wondeful time and we will see you on one of the next runs.
