This topic was covered in detail on local news a few weeks ago. Glad you didn't get burned. But as with all scams, it's a numbers game and they'll find one who takes the bait for every 5 they call on average.

All telephone credit card transactions are vunderable to the merchant and easily reversable by any scammer.
Lately, I have been getting many relay operator calls. (hearing impared) The calls are always very similiar in that the caller asks for high end home or car electronics. In most cases, they want to purchase more than one and the caller is very familiar with the most desirable products.
The common thread in all calls is that when I mention our pre-payment policy, the caller immediately disconnects. These scammers hide behind an operator and probably believe that the deaf are more easily trusted although it is unlikely they are really deaf.
