(which actually looks a lot more like a 37')

I think Fountains and Cigarettes are about the same price when you do the "beak and platform conversion math". The question is should a Cigarette and a Fountain be priced the same>?

My take is a 2005 42' Fountain Lightning ought go for more like $275...what is my logic? My logic is simple...that's what I would pay for it.

I also am fine with the Cigarette 38' Gun with 525's at around $350.

The 30' Vice is a true 34' boat and it should go for around 180K with 525's. that's all I would pay as it is an 8' beam boat.

am i missing something? the cig website says the vice is 30' LOA.... most of their boats are rounded up a few inches except the gladiator which is actually 36'11".... i am not seeing where the vice is any more than a "true" 30'...

and aren't all cig's 8' beam?

DITTO WTH are you getting the other four feet ??
200K for a 30 footer is rediculous !! I dont care what you call it ..Its a 30 footer with bravos period.

a beak can measure 2-2 1/2 feet and a built in platform 2-2 1/2 feet.

It's a true 30'er.....but if it had a beak and platform more like 34-35'.....just trying to compare apples to apples is all.

A 35' beak goes for around 200+K....

..that's all I was trying to say ...

all Cigs seem to have 8' beams while beak boats have somewhat wider beams..

My point is that Fountain is now priced at about the same price as a Cigarette. My question....should they be?

Yes.. and the Vice cockpit...so I am told... has the same beam and bolsters as the Gun. I think I was told it is only slightly smaller than the Gun cockpit as well....
It is a true 30 boat. Rob did tell me that it is very very close to the same "overall" size as a 35X and is a good boat to compare the Vice to as far as ergos.....

That's what I told the dealer...42' Lightening with T-525's for 360K plus tax = the boat stays in your showroom. period.

I will buy a 38' Gun as soon as my options strike.

I have recently become a full bred Cigarette guy.

WHY?

With the other brands you "get the ingredients" and with a Cigarette you "get the cake".

I have the brochure for Cig right here.
the 30 is 30'0"
Beam 8'
Freeboard 37"
Draft 27"
7,000lbs

the 38 is 37'6"
beam 8'
freeboard 40"
draft 27"
9,300lbs

Apparently each foot of cigarette "forward section" weighs an average 306lb.

Re: 30 Vice

If we do a little math with some prices from the last 3 weeks:
All have Mercury 525's (I am not a 496 fan...)
Pantera Survivor (true 36') T-525's $250k = $6,900/ft

Pantera 28'er T-525's $166k = $5,900/ft

Cigarette 38' Gun T-525's $360K = $9,500/ft

Cigarette 30' Vice T-525's 200K = $6,600/ft

Fountain 42' Lightning T-525's 340K (38'ft?) = $9,000/ft

Fountiain 42' EX T-525's 240K (38'?) = $6,315/ft

Fountain 35' EX T-525's 210K (31'?) = $6,800/ft

Fountain 47' Triple-525's 360K (42'?) = $ 8,600/ft

Summary based on "true foot length":

1.) Pantera 28'er $5,900/ft

2.) Fountain 42' EX $6315/ft

3.) Cigarette 30' Vice $6,600/ft

4.) Fountain 35' EX $6,800/ft

5.) Pantera 36' Survivor $6,900/ft

.................................................. ..............................

6.) Fountain 47' Lightning Triple 525's $8,600/ft (air and gen)
.................................................. ...............................
7.) Fountain 42' Lightning $9,000/ft

8.) Cigarette 38' Gun $9,500/ft

Any of the top 5 boats are close in price...your call as to the brand...the 47' Fountain with triple 525's looks justifiable as well.

Re: 30 Vice

I think it's interesting to see this breakdown of boats corrected for "beak and platforms" with 525's for power... :drink:

...style...resale and quality with the breakdown of prices says a lot.

The 30' Cigarette Vice is a realtively good deal per se' and being a true 30'er it aint no starter offshore with 525's and a 24 degree hull....it's comparable to many 35's out there. Would Powerboat call a 35' Fountain a "starter offshore"??
Somebody at Powerboat has tested too many 46'ers lately :D

A "starter offshore" is a 26' or 27'ers that have platforms... with a single or a pair of 350 magnums.

A 35' Fountain is barely over 30' on a good day. Handling and Fountain are not two words that go good together.

True enough, but that boat ain't what the general public is buying and its dead flat protected water. Plus, not alot of turns in a kilo run.

Originally they were to all have the same scheme (like the one in post 1) and you choose colors... now you can get it pretty much the way you want... within reason I am sure.... included... so I am told... a true custom boat....
