Didnt one of the Lavin brothers die in Key West one year, then for Mark to win the worlds without his brother, in the Jesse James boat.

Mark Lavin was killed in Key West in 1986 sitting next to his brother Chris, who was unharmed,........in their open class cat. The saddest day of my career in boat racing.

The brothers won the Worlds the previous year, 1985, in their Modified class Chris Cat.

Fyi.... mark lavin was killed in 1986, his brother chris was knocked uncontious, the 30 foot boat from 1985 was a conquest it was a running plug the mold the chris cat was pulled from. chris later went on to build a 48 foot boat that never really took off. if you need any further info please feel free to contact me i worked for them in 86, 87 and 88

Mark Lavin was killed in 1986...That is correct

Chris was not knocked unconscious....That is incorrect...... He turned immediately to Mark upon resurfacing.... and saw him leaning forward.

The 30 foot Jesse James cat(1985) was not a Conquest..it was a Chris Cat....which was derived from the earlier Shadow Cat. There never was a "running plug" for either the Shadow or the Chris... both went to molds before any testing was done. George Linder and I developed the Shadow...and George took a slighly modified version of the hull to Chris Craft... (wider sponsons)

The 35 boat (1986) was a Conquest and it was not a running plug for anything.... It was "sponsored" by Chris Craft. It was Wood and fibreglass construction ....... We , Conquest Marine,(George Linder, Ken Adams, and myself, Rich Luhrs) built it in South Carolina......

Later the same team designed and built the 48 Footer for Marce and Chris.

Rogersn67 Did you work for Don Roberts( JJ's Crew Chief)....... or directly for Marce?.......

Or are you Francie's brother?..... or Don Pruett's son? If so ........long time no see.

Hello Rich,
I did work with the team. I originally worked for "Pooch" when we painted the boat for Mark. I then worked directly for them during the 1997 season after Chris decided to put the boat back together and try to keep the legend alive. I also painted the 48 footer with Larry down in Pt. Pleasant, NJ.
I speak with Eric, Francie's brother once or twice a year. I still have the safty hatches that were directly behind the cockpit before the canopies were installed.
Like you say , Long time no see.
Hope you are doing well.
