It's a simple decision, go for a restore if the boat will meet your needs when complete.
I've got about $25k in my '72 Sutphen. She still skims wave's quite well for an old broad, and people come RUNNING to see her at the docks (no joke). Good luck to you! |

I did it because I loved the 28's and could not get Cigarette to build a new one. 99% of the time you will not get your money back out, but that's not why you do it. I agree with twinstep.
You don't do it to save money. You do it to save a particular boat. But you learn so much about that boat that it gives you a confidence that you can handle any mechanical issue that may arise out on the water. I know that it is a lot of work and money, but I LOVE knowing every inch of my boat. The kind of "knowing every inch" that comes from a strip down and re-fit. And I believe that a Formula 357 would be worth the effort. They are just that dam beautiful. |

Dave 911 sharp old Sutphen,got any more pictures? I gotta say restore it ,it's a labor of love but it's too cool to see a nicely restored classis let alone own one.And i love seeing the rare ones like the old sutphens and old novas 19's and stuff like that.Would be cool to see an old classic show someday.
