What is "fun" about boating???
 

el indio posed a question to define fun in some other post. I was wondering what you guys find fun about boating.

Fun for me is going out on a sunny day with friends from around Lake Michigan running the boats wide open and listening to the sweet sound of the motors being in synch (I'm not a techno buff, that's just how it sounds to me). Fun is riding side by side with the gang and listening to the louder and more powerful motors of other boats make that pretty crackle noise as they go by. Fun is also that feeling of adreneline that hits you when the boat takes off a wave, flys through the air and gently returns you to water. After running around all day next to one another, taking pictures to post of the boats and of just goofing off, sitting down to break bread together. Fun is also getting to drive the boat but I need my throttleman because I just feel safer that way.

I'm sure fun for Dan it's girls in bikinis :rolleyes:

Fun is being happy with what you have and secure in who you are.

I digress.

So what's fun about boating for you??

Mrs. Candy.....My thoughts exactly except I'll be a bit more technical.....
The sound of a pair of 1000Hp mills rippin' by at 100 plus mph...and blowing my drink out of my hand!! :D

Taking that leisurely ride back to the marina at the end of the weekend...sun going down...motor purring along...if you call purring wide open pipes!! :D

Hanging out with a bunch of old friends and making new ones all in the name of boating!! :evilb:

I particularly enjoy the cleaning, flushing, waxing, changing the oil and gearlube, fixing broken stuff, paying for fuel, paying the insurance, and answering idiot's questions at the marina.

But in all seriousness, there's nothing like the feeling of ripping along in some nice chop on a beautiful florida summer day. Makes you forget about the daily bullsht. :cool:

Yeah, there is all that preparation stuff (and sometimes the occassionally breakage) I left out...that's like mindfulness to get you ready for the pleasure of being on or near the water.

Can't count how many weekends we did that last year because of our weather out here....and we all got very happy. If the gas prices keep it up this year we may have to spend some time on the docks.

Nah Vick - we won't spend more time on the dock...we'll just have to "boatpool." Like one weekend, you guys and BobZ could drive us all around in the Fountains, the next weekend, Michelle and I and Shags will take everyone in the Powerquests, then Mark and Jimmy can take us in the Cigs...and maybe for a fourth weekend Roger's Sonic and Tony's Apache...and I'm on a roll, 'cause the fifth weekend we could run Mike, Mike, Don and Billy's Formulas...and so on and so forth. Minimal gas $, maximum fun!

Oooo, now that sounds fun...we could probably go through a whole list of performance boats...try em all out...I like that!!!

Fun for me is traveling all over the country and staying in the same Hotel as 50 of your buddies and beating the crap out of my boat on Sundays

sitting at the bar watching the boats go by....

the scream of several big blocks in the afternoon....

running down the water and giving a wave to buddy as you pass him....

the sound of the water patrol testing your exhaust....

the bar b.s. sessions after boating all day......

the last blip of the throttle as you put it away.... :D :cool:

I like all of the above. Boating for us is relaxation time. No cell phones ringing or Blackberrys beeping. One of my favorite things to do is a "fly-by" at when arriving at my favorite spot, although I get "the look" from my wife every time that I do it!! :rolleyes: :D :drink: :evilb:

For me I guess you could say the best part of boating is the friends we have met and the weekends we get to spend with them.
Also the places we get to visit and the early mornings waking up on the boat knowing you are already where you want to be. I also like the fact that for a change Mr P takes over most of the cleaning responsibilities :D

Running wide open into a clean 3ft chop with the radio blairing my favorite rock songs ......... The smell of coconut oil and fiberglass in the same wiff ......... The sound of the BB raging as you trim out ........... That's the stuff I call FUN ..............

We've got a second home on the local river. Boat is having a motor rebuilt now, but had a blast just hanging out at the river house this weekend. Something about the sun and water is uplifting!
