Speed Racer to make-in water debut

Speed racer will be making his in-water debut at the PICKWICK Races with Johnny T at the helm. Randy Scism took him out a few weeks ago and let off at 150 mph at only 5000 rpm, FYI the motors are designed to run 72000 rpm, should be interesting!

Baddest MTI I've ever seen. Can't wait to hear the results.

Hate to be nitpicking but at 72000 rpm it should go about 2,160 MPH so basically a tick or two above Mach 3... based on 150 @ 5000.

:D

That's an awesome boat!!! I hope somebody is able to get it on film while it's rippin' up the water!!

GL...You are too much! :D :D

Re: Speed Racer to make-in water debut

Hey, he did type in 72,000 rpm... but I'm sure he meant 7200 rpm... now do the math over GL... :D :D

Re: Speed Racer to make-in water debut

Oh yeah, and post more pics of the boat!!

My Bad, 7200 RPM....Sorry!

Re: Speed Racer to make-in water debut

actually if you do the math, and have 5% slip and leave the gear ratio and prop pitch the same it equals 214 MPH,

OldSchool 05-02-2005 04:20 PM

Re: Speed Racer to make-in water debut

I think I remember ( :drink: :drink: ) the MTI guys at the miami show saying that they expected 188-190 mph out of it. That is where the needle on the speedo that's painted on the rear is pointed.

That math is not nearly as much fun... non-ball busting math is boring actually ... :D:D:D

it's official debut was at LOTO but that didn't last too long when the water patrol heard it fire up.....

All that boat and no cabin... how much more useless can it be? LOL!!! :D

i am guessing the guy who takes that one home will take out his 80 sunseeker if he needs a cabin.....

Re: Speed Racer to make-in water debut

That is a sick sick machine. The detail is unbelievable. Thats an interesting throttle set up. Both motors controled by the 2 throttles, that seem to lead to 1 ball type handle? Am I seeing that right? And what the heck is this? http://www.pier57.com/44speed16.JPG

Does this boat have a private owner, or is it still waiting for someone to plunk down their 1.2 mil?

nothing on that boat is an off the shelf part.... hence the 1.2M price tag

One of the best looking boats around! A paint job with statement, but not overdone.

My money is that it will never even get wet, let alone see sand. Sand=sandpaper. Hmmm, I don't think so Tim.

I'll be in Pickwick for the OSS race. I'll be sure to take some photos.

Re: Speed Racer to make-in water debut

Randy took the time to show me the anchor in the boat and the throttles and all the detail that went into creating this machine in Miami on the ladder. Whe I asked "How much", He said he kept calling the owner about the dollars invested and the owner just replied "keep going". I found that amusing. I think he said the throttles alone were $ 8 K.

8k for throttles!

You can buy a Rolex chronograph movement for less. Those "throttles" must be machined really precise...or something.

Hmmmm.

I'm going to golfcourseonly.com

normal throttles will cost you 1500-2000 so 8k seems about right for that boat.... :D :evilb: :D

Re: Speed Racer to make-in water debut

Not that I would pay it, but they are custom machined and there is also a control on the underside of the shifters for the crashable shiftboxes, pretty trick set up.

Re: Speed Racer to make-in water debut

So is it still for sale - especially if it hasn't even had a proper run yet? Was it just for an investment or something?

Just curious!

Re: Speed Racer to make-in water debut

It's been sold for atleat a few months. I met the extremely fortunate owner at JB Hook's the last week of March. The paint was done in Harrisonville and the boat is booked for shows and events through November. Like said before, EVERYTHING is completely one-off!!! Eventually it should be down at LOTO. Meanwhile I belive the owner will keep running the 46' BT Moopoly boat   :drink:

Nicely done MR. Scism. Your creativity is brilliant
