Cape Cod OPA Season Opener Power Boat Races Come to Yarmouth!
Yarmouth will play host to the Cape Cod OPA (Offshore Powerboat Association) Season Opener Power Boat Races, June 10-12, 2005! The event, benefiting the American Red Cross, Cape Cod Chapter, will be held in Nantucket Sound, off the shores of the South Yarmouth beaches and will include a number of activities over the course of the weekend.
This incredible motor sport brings race boats from 21 to 45 feet, with speeds between 60 and 120 mph to Yarmouth. The boaters kick the weekend off with a dinner at Skippy’s Pier One on Friday night, followed by a day at the ‘Dry Pits’ and in-water testing on Saturday. The ‘Dry Pits’ area allows race fans the opportunity to see these boats up close and personal while the teams fine tune their boats for the race on Sunday! Sunday’s ‘for points’ race activity caps off the weekend!
You are invited to watch the Cape Cod OPA Season Opener from land or from your own boat or if you’d like to be a little closer to the action, feel free to volunteer your time or services during race week. It's a rewarding experience that you will not soon forget.

Hmmm...Cape Cod....was once escorted to the Bridge by the State Police at 6am, and told not to return for the weekend. Arrived on Friday night, the 4th was Monday, I was back home in Lynn by Sunday morning. 25 years later, I still chuckle. One of the craziest 36 hour stretches of my life.
Good luck with the races. Should be a great time!
