Newbie Here!

Hey Guys,
My name is Matt and im 20. I own a Landscaping Company here in S. FLorida. I've always been really into boats and everything that has to do with them.. My Dad and Uncle had a Powerplay back in 99, and sold it in 2000.. I am looking into possibly Baja, or Fountain, if affordable even a Cigarette.. Towing would not be a problem, I have a 2005 F-250 Lariat. Does anybody have any advice, or tips on how to make what i'm lookign to do possible ? Also, how does buying a boat differ from buying a car or anything else you would finance ??
Thanks in Advance!
-Matt

It was an awesome boat.. It was in MINT condition when it was sold.. The Powerplay was a 25 footer with a 3foot pulpit, so technically it was a 28" .. The Motors were 2 twin 200 black maxs..

I am looking for something that is at least 25+ and is sea-worthy... I'm basically looking for something that I can take out into the Ocean or if I want to goto Bayside or Bimini, It will be good for that.. Not any powerboat racing yet . lol . It would be great if I had some type of cutty or cabin..

Sweet. I wasn't on the list this time. Phew.

Welcome to the forum. First thing you should do is buy a membership so that you can see the pics of our boats.

The second thing you should do is to buy a boat of off an OSO member. :D
Then you have to get glassdave to paint it.

[QUOTE]

Membership is a good investment. Members have helped me out in ways that far exceed the price of admission.

But understand that every forum has some "knobs."
Eventually somebody will give you some grief about something. Don't worry about it.

The nice thing about OSO is that so many members are "real" people that you can go boating with on the weekend, who show up to help you with your boat, lend you something, give you good advice.

Speaking of good advice. Chill a while and learn about what's out there and what you like. It is an absolute buyer's market. So many good boats for sale that you don't have to settle for the first pretty boat that you see.

The members will help you sort things out.

Good luck.

Welcome to OSO, and take your time looking @ Boats, there are a ton of them out there. Also, check into the INSURANCE $$. You live in the HIGHEST BOAT INSURANCE $$ region in the USA. I checked first, and bought our new boat, (new to us) with 502 MPIs partly because the insurance was ~ $1,000.00 a year CHEAPER than with Mercury BLUE motors.
Good luck,
Dean

Are you calling me a black knob? :D
(Don't mean to hijack your thread newbie :D)
Woodtick? Why not.

I will probably take a couple hours off of work tomorrow and splash the boat. (If I don't I will be looking for a ride.)

I am at the same dock this year. LP 321.

Which day are you heading over?

(again... sorry newbie) :drink:

Wow Steve, that boat is really nice.. I am going to start checking insurance rates this week... i'm not to worried.. if worse comes to worse, I can buy it using my biz tax ID, and then when it comes to insurance, it gets added to my policy as equipment, lol .. Just like my truck.. $80/month for full coverage auto insurance... not bad on a brand new 2005 f-250.. hopefully they won't try to ask me for my arm or leg. lol ..

Hey Man, we deffinately should try to meet up sometime.. I'm all about learning as much as I can.. I absolutely would LOVE to have the apache for a first boat.. but I guess we'll see what insurance thinks about that.. Also, I deffinately need to check with my bank and see about financing options.. I'm going to try to have all that done this week, so that when the time is right, I can go ahead and make the right choice!
Matt

thanks for the compliments Matt and everyone else too.

my understanding is , getting financing on a boat 10 years old and older will require a marine survey verifying the boat is worth whatever your paying for it. it will also be required for insurance purposes.
whatever you decide to buy , ide recommend getting a survey regardless of a boats age. it could save you thousands in the long run.
I'm paying 1300./year for it now but its in Missouri. my guess is Florida will be higher.

Mylexon20s 05-19-2005 08:20 PM

Re: Newbie Here!

I can imagine it'd be higher in florida, but if its under like 2k for the year, it won't be a problem.. I just don't want to be paying 5k year on insurance. lol
