Re: One of the worst days of my life!!
Two years ago last week we discovered in the morning our Lab named Jake died in his sleep. This was a complete shock as he was very healthy and the night before was active as usual. He was nine years old.
I called the vet when they opened that morning and made arrangements to bring him there for cremation. I had his body wrapped in his favorite blanket. I drove to the vet and carried him to the back door and the vet opened the door. As I started to walk into the building the vet said " I'll take him from here." That was when the reality of our loss hit me. I'm tearing up as I type this. I can suggest one thing. Keep his collar for the memories and reuse it on your next dog. We adopted a German Shorthair from a rescue group six months later and he wears Jake's collar. I hope this is some help for you. ed |

We have a Yellow Lab named AJ. He is 6 1/2. I dread the day and feel sorry for your loss. They are family.

Re: One of the worst days of my life!!
These threads kill me.
I had to put my buddy down 2/15/2003 I held him in my arms until they came for him. He is cremated and sitting on my mantle. You will never stop missing your dog. But it will get easier. I used to fear dreaming about him because it made me sad, but a couple years down the road I like it. I kept his collar and stuff, too. But I don't think I could use it on another dog. I really feel your loss. I'm sorry. |

Terrible news, sorry that this had to happen. Always remember the good times your loyal friend and you had and they will be with you always.

Re: One of the worst days of my life!!
Since 72' I've had six Dobermans. Tanya, who died at 16 months from cancer of the lymph nodes, Pinta who died at 18 months from a heart defect, Jaus (my only male/160 lbs. German Doberman) who died in his sleep at 9, Karma who I had to have put down from cancer at 16, Sadie who died on the way to the Vet's at 15, and now Bernis the Horrible (named after my paternal grandmother).
After having my first one Tanya put to sleep, I broke four bones in my hands beating up my truck. In the Vet's parking lot. Everyone has been a heart wrenching experience, particularly Sadie who saw me through a whirlwind of life changes and was ALWAYS there. Asked for nothing more than my love. I'd trade that dog for any human being on Earth. I have the ashes of four of my dogs and they will go with me when I pass on. My back will be covered, very very well. I am so sorry about your loss and know exactly what you are going through. I know how hard it hurts, but take solace in knowing you gave him a very very very good life. Rest assured he is smiling down upon you as we write. Russ |
Re: One of the worst days of my life!!
I'm with you, it's seriously one of the most difficult things to go through after being such a big part of your life. We don't get to keep them long enough. I look forward to the Rainbow Bridge.

Jessica and I are so sorry to read this. After loosing Dodge our 9 year old Shepard last month I know how you feel. It takes time but you will never loose the memories. You have to be thankful for all the joy they give us and give them the love they deserve for the short time they are here. Its a shame that they age 7 times faster than us but they truly live for ever in our hearts.
The night dodge passed we found a breeder that had puppies available. Some might say it was a bit soon to get another dog but I beg to differ. Having the little pup in the house helped me get over what happened. I would of been lost with out having a little buddy around. The new pup is al ready learning to drive  |
