Prop and Shaft compatibility
#1
Have XZ drives with big shaft. Used to using 28P B1s with torque-thrust hubs.
Borrowed these props from Craig223 tonight. I was so excited about finding the perfect prop, I overlooked the fact that Craig was right and we have different prop-shafts.
Is there anyway to make these props compatibile with my XZ shafts?
Thanks.

Randy, the TorqueThrust is as such which I am used to using, with the hub being about 2.5" in diameter, with the 4 plastic shims to go on the flatsides.
These props I borrowed, I guess are only made to work on regular B1 drives. Upon further inspection, I don't think they can be pressed out.

Brian, From your picture of the prop you borrowed I'm pretty sure you can swap hub inserts, use a deep well socket (1 1/16" ) with ablock of wood on top and give it a blow with a hammer. I have an XZ drive and a standard Bravo so I often change my hub inserts.

OK, so whatever insert I knock out of there... will the prop itself have splines on it then? and I just put a couple washers and a prop nut behind it all?

No silly, you have to put the XR hubs in it.....Tap out the flow torques and tap in the Xr hubs. They are retail 138.00 from Merc. I have one in stock and I could get you another one. Pm me if you're interested, I'll call and see what my price on the second one is, The one I have came with a prop I ordered so I dont know what they charged me for it. Either way I'll sell them to you for cost plus shipping...

The hub comes with the correct washers, new nut and a thrust washer.

OK OK OK, I see how it all works. I have never had to deal with all this. They all looked fused together to me at first glance.
I have the XR hubs which are still fine and dandy from my old props. I will knock out the pressed in small shaft hubs in the morning (don't want to wake the neighbors now) and insert the XR/XZ hubs.
Thanks everyone. I have always just left whatever props on the boat, on the boat. Never had to worry about prop testing and swapping and destroying one.
