I'm looking at an 1988 311 SR1 with 330/454's and trs dirives, with a trailer. The boat looks to be in good shape, the drives are rebuilt, but it needs a new engine. Roughly, how much is this boat worth?

Without seeing it, it is hard to tell. Maybe $20-25K???
OSO member OffshoreDrillin has a VERY nice one for sale with Bravo drives for $40K that needs nothing.

That boat looks very nice, but I am on a budget. I know it's best to buy the most boat I can afford too, but at this point I just want to get into boating. The 311 I'm looking at has 7 hours on rebuilt TRS drives, new exhaust, one newer engine, and one bad engine. The interior is perfect, the exterior is pretty good, and it comes on a 4 year old aluminiun tri-axle trailer. Asking price is 18.5K

That is it. I do have some concerns about it's inability to get bids. I have talked with the owner, and everything seems to be on the up and up. He has receipts for everything he has done. He was asking 30K for the boat before the engine went.

if all it needs is a motor (rebuilt short block $4k) the it sounds like a deal even with the trs drives.
btw - if your on a budget - buy a scooter / not a boat!

No matter how much you THINK you are going to have spend,
DOUBLE it.
311's are a great boat. Not the fastest but for it's size one of the very best in rough water with a great ride. And it's a full 31 ft, 33 including the silent thunder swim platform if it has one. (I yanked mine off, like the clean transom look better, just my preference.) Mine is an 89' and still does not rattle. An extremely high quality boat.
