Re: PWC Riders are crazy
If I knew how to change the topic of the thread I would, but I think you can only edit the content. Hope I didn't offend anyone. But at least maybe we are raising the awareness a little. It's a dangerous world out there,PWC's and boats( and canoes :p) all have to be watched out for. That was my point.

Re: PWC Riders are crazy
You didn't say that they were ALL crazy.
I wouldn't worry about it. If anybody was offended, then they must have included themselves among those you were talking about, instead of ignoring it because the description didn't fit them. |

Re: PWC Riders are crazy
I think that when someone rides a jet ski for the first few times (more for some) you CAN get into a state of thinking no one is around you (maybe no one was when you started your playing). I have done it and have to keep reminding myself that I am not the only one on the lake. I am not a fan of jet skis, but an occasional ride is fun and refreshing. I think that a lot of people forget the rules of the water and don't pay attention to their surroundings, especially the kids. The best way I have found to avoid hitting the jet skis is to just aim for them, they are always gone by the time I get there  .
What I think is worse are the a$$holes who zig zag pulling their kids tubing in the middle of the busiest part of the lake. Now how stupid is that? If one of the kids fell off, it would be like chumming for sharks. I am sure there are plenty of people who don't like "those big, noisy, go-fast boats", but I would like to think that most of us work hard for what we have and try and treat others with some consideration. It's not a lot of fun trying to stay out of the way on "amateur weekend" and have fun at the same time. That's my rant for now. |

Re: PWC Riders are crazy
Fund is a pr*ck :D
And I just have to say...I have had to come off plane because of a jetski 5x as often as any other type of boat combined. "All"? Of course not, but drivers licensing for cars is mandatory, but in an environment with no speed limit, no street signs, and no lines on the surface, wouldn't a license be a little MORE important than it is in a car? |
Re: PWC Riders are crazy
Hauling a$$ this weekend offshore in the Gulf doing 90 plus and here they come at me like a flea headed to a dog. Im watching and getting very irritaded that there heading into (towards) my travel path. Now I,m coming off the throttles and trying to fig. what is there intention. They want to race at you and then attemp to turn and run with you as if they even have a chance of staying up. Mean while Im trying to determine if this a novice or just a person with a death wish, all in 10 seconds. I hate them, around here. I guess cause most of them are rentals or people clueless as to comonsence. I dont mean to offend those riders who are knowledgable, just those that are careless. I think there a blast, but you have to be alert all around you at all times. Hell, Im running 90-100 and still looking over both shoulders every 10 sec. to see whats up behind me.

You owe me three. :D I don't know Fund but I'll call him a prick if it gets me free beer!!! :D :D As far a PWCs go, I've been riding since the late eighties, 440,550,650, X2, Superjet, Kawi 750 SXI Pro, GP1200, Assorted Sea Doo's, I love them. I can ride a stand up all day long and twice in Sunday's. I can ride back wards, on the hood, water ski from the side, sub it sooo deep you wont see me for 30 seconds, I can do barrel rolls, almost anything you 've seen on a stand up I can do, that's no BS. I know my level of riding is waaaay more thank the average idiot you see cutting in front of your bow going down the lake. I like to ride during the week when the traffic is limited, or in coves away from people and boats. The worst part about PWCs is that they are entry level for most people, so they've had no experience what so ever on the water. They don't know the rules, the markers (no wake zones, etc.) and they have no clue how fast they go and how fast you can get into trouble. Should 12 or 13 year kids be able to ride them? Probably not, although my kids could ride stand ups when they were about 8 or 9. I would feel confident my teenagers know what they are doing on them and would be safe to themselves and you if you were on the water. Would I let one of their friends ride without supervision? HELL NO..... Do I drink and ride? Never. This is a rough topic because most of the PWC owners really don't have clue but there are a few of us old school riders left that do. You can't put us all in the moron group......... :drink: :drink: |
Re: PWC Riders are crazy
Ok... so at this point I must say that while I really like Mcollinstn... everybody else on a ski is suspect. I miss the kind that you had to actually be able to ride.
I remember Havasu in 1984. I rented a ski. First time ever. 30 bucks an hour. (Of course that was pretty much before offshore boats found the Colorado...) It took me 90% of my rental time to stay up on the SOB. Times have changed. Anyway... all of this pr*ck calling reminds me of a joke. What do you call a pr*ck without a boat? Pr*ck. What do you call a pr*ck with a boat? Captain. This is your captain speaking. :D Now... just cause I let rdp in on the smiley secret.... doesn't mean that we should start an all out "pr*ckfest." :D Not that it isn't funny. :D |

I better put a smiley in here. :D But after all this I would be happy to buy you a drink. But not the rest of these pr*cks. uh-oh. :D there. No cash value. Gotta meet in person. How far are you from Lake Erie? I'm glad that Magic thought this whole deal was funny... because I hijacked the crap out of this thread. Sorry. :D |

I attribute this to owning a larger boat and always checking my surroundings! |

speed bumps

Re: PWC Riders are crazy
The bottom line..........there are more PWCs out there than ever....they run in the center of the channels which are beyond dangerous....most of them the do not respect the no wake zones. If you cannot drive a car legally you should not be driving a PWC unless accompanied by an adult. Just like there are laws on the road there are laws on the water. People would learn very quick if they received points on the DLs or could have it revoked.
Just like anything else, it just sucks that powerboat owners get shunned the most because they are fast and loud. And we are not as reckless as others think we are. |
Re: PWC Riders are crazy
We have issues of some sort with jet skiers just about every time we get out on the water. Worst is when they head right towards us when were haul'n azz. Never know which way they're gonna go, so we slow down and sometimes change course to avoid killing one of the azz holes. Some of them are true idiots. Not all kids either. Many of them look like they're in their 40's. Also had a couple of issues with cruisers this summer. Two have crossed the channel right in front of us. Probably drunks.
INHO go faster's are by far the safest people out on the lake. Only once have I seen a Hi Perf boater do something that may have endangered someone else on the water. Once in about 10 years of boating. Yet we get bi%^ched about most of any other boater type out there....wierd |
Re: PWC Riders are crazy
I agree, we have to be good or you don't last long in this sport.
|
Re: PWC Riders are crazy
That's funny, on lake of the ozarks I see just as many powerboats which refuse to yield the right of way and who think they own the lake than PWC's. I'm a PWC'er that grew up with a mastercraft ski boat and thus hated pwcs until I got one. I practice very safe boating.
|
Re: PWC Riders are crazy
Your right that is funny because I live at the busiest part of the lake and I can't count the amount of pwc's that get pulled over for going full bore though the no wake zone, don't see hardly any boats get pulled over.

The fastest stock ski right now is a 2004-2005 Seadoo RXP. It is a two seater, 4 stroke, 1500cc, supercharged and intercooled. It tops out at 67-68mph tracked by a heartbreaker. Highly modified ones running ported heads, piggback fuel controllers, upgraded injectors (among other mods) have run the low 80's. |

While I was running I had to constantly dodge them. They need to be required to take a boaters safety course before they are allow on the water, or they could have a open season on them. :evilb:
