Just like Bill gates owns the computer world because everybody HAS to purchase Windows....Mercury Marine owns the engine business because it bundles it with their out-drives.
Until we get a major force out there cranking out Bravo and #6 competition... you can expect Mercury to Dicktate what engines you MUST use.

Maybe next we can all see the Car and Track Car of the Year!... 2005 Ford Escort with the all new ZZ 502 Cherolet engine in it! WTF!!!.... do some boat builders really think that everyone else in the world is a schmuck ?!!!! I think this shows callese on Cigarettes part, if they were such the BUILDER to be reconned with they should have stood up and said, "Nope, the boat of the year was with Zul's and thats the way it is staying!!!" We'll make the next boat of the year with Merc's! It's just a big slap in the face to everyone I think. YAH, that was the classiest thing to do !
