Thanks red
The photos can be seen at===http://www.abrahydroplanes.com/
Up till three years ago I used to get passes to the tower at Rooster tail turn, the most exciting and beautiful turn in moter racing, land or sea.
Here is Ellstom NOT trying to set altitude record back in 2000.

Elam Update
The Elam team is feverishly working to repair the damage from this morning's blow-over. Owner Erick Ellstrom said "we have come too far not to race." The crew feels the same way. Crew member Danny Walters said "this will be an all-nighter." The internal damage was less than expected giving the team hope that they can still race for the Gold Cup. We will keep you posted.
Breaking News
The U-16 Miss Elam blew over during his second lap of testing for the Gold Cup on the Detroit River at 10 am (Eastern) Friday morning. Driver J.W. Myers escaped the boat under his own power and waved to the crowd. The dramatic blow-over occured at full speed entering Roostertail Turn near the Detroit Yacht Club, and rivaled the storied early 1980s Pay-n-Pak double flip in the Tri-Cities. The U-16 broke in half as a result of the high-flying flip and impact on the river.

Re: Gold Cup blowover
Cash..
You are correct except the turbines don't make as much noise as the RC.....That, by the way was a cause of many leaving the Unlimited fan base.
The most popular boat on the circuit remains as U-6 Vacationaville a 12 or 16 cylinder guy. It's driven my Mitch Evans..
