I asked steve david the same question and here was his reply

Water viewing is pretty difficult, they keep you about 1/4 mile up from the course towards Lake St. Clair. Best viewing is from deck of Roostertail lounge or the docks at the Detroit Yacht Club if you have any member friends there. Alternatively, they have grandstand seating next to the pits that has awesome viewing. Thanks for writing Scott.

Worked on the Gold Cup rescue teams for several years. Sinbad's is by the Roostertail at the north end of the course and was traditionally where the party was at. It has died out a little in recent years.

I was actually on the Tango 2 rescue boat in the second shot (pink tank-top in the center) when Mike Hansen and Jasper Engines blew over in front of the DYC dock a few years ago. Spectacular crash at over 200 mph ... he walked away with a few bruises.

Last photo was shot from Sinbad's dock. You can rent a slip there for the weekend, but it ain't cheap! Call and ask for Mark.

At the airport now, Miss GEICO will be there
