Default brand new boat with rebuilt engine question?

I had a customer of mine call me today about a problem with his boat that he boat last year...I transported his brand new boat with 1200's from the dealer to him and everything went perfectly. Now it is a year later and after 68 hours he went to have the top ends gone through and found out that his motors have already been rebuilt. When he bought the boat it had .8 hours on the meter and he was told that was correct .....Yesterday he called the dealer back and was told that the motors were rebuilt at 100 hours and that is when they were purchased by the dealer. Dealer claimed since the motors were new rebuilds they were technically new motors He then said that they only charged him $100k for the motors which should have been $150k. When he bought the boat he assumed a brand new boat would have brand new power, is this common practice in the busines? Rebuilt power in new boats being sold as new power instead of rebuilt? Any legal recourse or did he just get screwed?

I dunno but in my opinion the dealer did not make a full disclosure and misrepresented.

One word Fraud.

2 sides to every story but based in what you have said.. Fraud

Sounds chitty to me...

New boat should have new engines (and rest of package)unless disclosed properly-PERIOD.

Time to seek legal counsel and go for it until the bleeding stops...not cool

That's just chicken sh!t. The dealer clearly lied or didn't tell the whole story to make the original sale. I know If I was buying a new boat with new motors thats a HUGE difference between buying a new boat with rebuilt motors...........Another scum bag boat dealer story, what a surprise. Out the boat dealer so no one else makes the same mistake.

A new boat is a new boat, means everything is new, period. Would you accept a new corvette, that is new but with a rebuilt motor???? and pay sticker for it, HeLL no. Depending on what your buddy want to do, I would give the dealer the chance to make it right, like to deliver some new motors, NEW not rebuilt or I would take him to court, because that really is fraud, If all these facts are true post the dealers name so no one else gets screwed.

I want to but my customer does'nt want anything to come out yet...But I can say that it is a well known dealer that has several happy customers, so this may be their one and only screw up.

Maybe the dealer needs to do the top ends on their dime to "make it right". Although new motors is unlikely, seems they owe this guy something. If they don't step up, please make sure this story comes out!

That's just wrong! I'd be livid.

New means new......

BS! Does the sales agreement have a box to check for new or used? (99% of them do). If so, he had to check ONE.

If what has been stated is true, I respectfully disagree that it was a "screw up" and agree with Von Bongo that it was out and out fraud. The dealer HAD to know they were rebuilt motors yet he sold them as new. Sorry, that's not a "screw up".

I'd give him four choices.

One: replace the rebuilt motors and all expenses with verifiable brand new motors.

Two: rebate the price of replacing the rebuilt motors with new motors including all expenses.

Three: give me my money back for the purchase price of the boat.

Four: see your azz in court.
