Here's what I know about the boat.

It's a 1988 Cougar US1. 46' Two Speedmaster 4's on the outside and a 3 in the middle. Zul did the motors in about 91 or so, and then a later owner had them freshened up, allegedly less than 70 hours ago. Judging by how they run, no smoke, easy start, nice idle, good even compression, etc, I'd guess that 70 hours SOH is fairly acurate. When Zul did them, they were 750hp each. BDS blowers on them 2/850's each. Straight Stellings (oh it sounds sooo freakin nice with all three of them running!). Not sure what the top speed is.

I don't have experience with a large go-fast. I've got a 17' with a BBC that does over a hundred and been in 17-18' boats that do over 140. And my last boat was 48', but did a whopping 20mph (40,000 pound aft cabin boat). But never a 46' boat with adjustable tabs, drives and over 80. When I took PV out for the sea trial on the St Clair, I had the tabs all the way up and the drives all the way in and pulled 80+ on the GPS at 5000 rpm. At 3200 RPM, PV was at 55mph GPS. I'm sure that once I learn how to tweek the trim and the drives, it'll haul. Always looking for advice on tab trim and drive trim.

The boat needs a little cabin work and some minor cosmetics, but nothing major. I do plan on going somewhere in it this weekend, assuming Nautic can bring PV over from Canada. I feel so bad that the delivery has been put off about 5 times now. Nautic Marine Transport has been awesomely understanding. I didn't have much luck with the first insurance outfit I tried to bind with, which delayed me a week or so, Then we had some mix ups with wire transfers to a Canadian bank. But now it is time for some boating!

Hey, thisistank - no go fast at the time. Just a Carver Riviera - a 32' 33 mph inboard aft cabin boat.

80 with the drives trimmed in is something, that thing should fly when she's trimmed out...........

So for starters, where do y'all think I should start with tab and drive trim?

Here's three more pix.

I've never run a 3 engine boat but I would start trimmed in, get it on plane, start out at maybe 3500 or 4000 rpm, add trim out slowly until you start to loose speed and make a note of where you gained the most speed. Move up in rmp's (maybe 500 increments) and add more trim until you scrub again and make another note. I doubt if anyone will know the magic answer for where you should be trimmed, it will be a learning process. You'll find where it runs most efficiently. Tabs will be a whole trial and error process all over again. Tabs down while trying to plane will help you roll over faster, then bring your tabs up once you are running.

When it is on the trailer note at where your indicators are when tabs and trim are level with the bottom of the hull. Each boat is different (mine are 3 for tabs and trim) I find this helps me setup for different running conditions.

A buddy of mine in Sandusky, Ohio purchased that a year or so ago and just flipped it. Great looking and running boat.

Hey Con-grads I remember following that boat into the mouth of the Connecticut river and having the girl on the back just take her top off for us. Made up for the no wake zone run to the gas dock.
