Fred,
I saw your boat sitting in the slip as I was idling in/out from the DNR launch a few times so far. I grew up in St. Joseph, and enjoy launching my boat down there from time to time. I live near Grand Rapids, and may be bringing my boat down again this weekend (Saturday), launching from the DNR ramp, and run south. Perhaps I will have the pleasure of meeting you. Congrats on the Cougar---very sharp!

If you want to stop by, do. You have to go all the way to the bridge, run tight along the slips at Harbor Isle, then get about 20 feet off the slips by the condos, to the turn, then pull into the slip next to the one Plain Vanilla is in. If it is not there, I'm out on the lake.

this boat was originally owned by Sammy Carabetta.. I knew it well and saw it HUNDREDS of times as we rented a cottage right next door to his mother. As a kid I would anxiously await they're daily joyrides on Plain Vanilla.. I will say that these guys knew how to have fun.. They would load up daily, and they wait until they got about a hundred or so yards offshore, then absolutely HAMMER IT!!! the sound that boat made still sends chills down my spine. They would crank this thing ALL THE WAY OUT TO LONG ISLAND!! you could hear it for miles out. such an AMAZING BOAT!
i have some very old pics of this boat. i'm sure of them date from when this boat was first purchased. best of luck to you on owning this LEGEND of the LONG ISLAND SOUND!
if interested, let me know i could scan them in.

Would love some pics.
I did have an opportunity to speak with Sammy on the phone about a year ago. Nice guy, and told me the entire history of the boat, from when it was all white, everything was white, to him acquiring the boat and then turning it into what it is now.
More pix in my photobucket pages, along with some short vids

It is amazing to see a boat from when i was in my 20's still around today and looking just as good. I can remember when Sammy owned it and it was really that plain vanilla, Correct me if I'm wrong but did he have the name in light blue before all the paint and interior.
