It was a great looking boat but I didn't think it was a Bertram orange or red and blue on white.
I have VHS video clips of that race as I had a press pass was on the 50' Cary press boat for that race, (covering it for my highscool video class =P )
The editor did a crappy job so it is barely worth seeing, one second clips of each boat, trolling from Turnberry to the start at Gov Cut. and start and finish footage.

The Toleman boat always stood out in my mind though.

That boat was built in aluminium by I think a company called Saltshaker, it was designed by Don Shead who designed many race boats in Europe. It was the boats only race as Tolman Group, the race bent it a bit, we then spent many hours bending it back into shape and it was then sold to Europe and raced as Goldrush with Jaguar engines, I think it was cut up for scrap a few years ago

I always thought that was an aluminum boat and was surprised when they said here it was a Bertram

Ted had a Bertram as well but I do not think it was used at that race, it may have been in Australia or England at the time, or in the workshop, I do remember it having a full refit in 1981.

In 1981 Tolman Group Racing had the aluminium monohull, a aluminium new Cougar cat, the Bertram and a wooden Cougar cat plus two smaller class 3 boats that his sons raced here in the UK

The project is still coming along very nice, some delays, but the boat should be completed within the next two years. I'm building this back 100 % original.

Be prepared for disappointment if the boat has been stored outside for any length of time. Remember many boats built prior to 1992 were made of General Purpose resin, which is great for hot tubs, but bad for old boats.

Thank you so much for this prudent advice.
I had the 24' Banana ex racer Breakaway, given a structural survey last week, and all structures below the floor came back as "wet but not rotten"

It had sat open nose down for the last 3 years.

I have since decided to pass on the project
