SHIPPING CONTAINERS!!!!!
Damn things float just below the surface. They'll tear the bottom off any fiberglass boat.

When my parents and I used to travel Long Island Sound my job was sit on the bow with binoculars looking for floating debris.
Back in the early-mid 60's you could almost walk across New York Harbor from all the junk.

I had to have a talk with my neighbor down river about tossing logs in the water. Some people just do not have a freeking clue. He was pulling stuff off the bottom then floating it out. Quite a mine field he made for people

Things I have seen in the Hudson:

30 gallon drums
50 gallon drums
car tires/rims
car bumper
telephone poles w/ steele climing steps
6 x 6's
4 x 4's
2 x 4's w/ nails
2 x 6's W/ nails and screws
Detour sign
porta john
pieces of a porta john
Trees w/ roots
condoms
syringes/needles
Tiny drug baggies
2 Dead Dog
a Dead Cat
a few Dead Rats

and my favorite,, a 12 foot x 12 foot by 12 inch high dock barely visible floating in the middle of the river at dusk,,, just before a tripple outboad sutphen came screaming down the river at god knows what speed...

The worst I have seen on our river is just a log/limb.We dont even see beer cans floating in the water here. At least we don't have a land mine field like yawl That would suck

A client of mine just did a triathlon that involved the Hudson. He has been sick ever since. He doesn't know what he caught but said to not ever swim in the Hudson.
