Help with surface drive.
Anyone out there maybe help me with a drive I'm building??? It's kinda like an arneson, but doesn't steer with the rear housing. I do need to trim though, and the u-joint I used couldn't handle the 500 HP the motor has now, and I'm building another one that's going to put out about 850 to 900 HP. What kind of universal/CV do they use in those things. This is the first boat I've ever had with a surface drive on it. Thought I'd build one since I'm on such a low budget Thanks for anyone's thoughts.

Re: Help with surface drive.
You might find some info at www.pulsedrive.net. They use the same ujoint assembly that merc uses on the #6 drive - should be beefy enough.

The ujoints on my Kaama's are Spicer. I can't remember the number. When I had the tranny out, I told them to replace the ujoint, he said there was no need, they showed no signs of wear, other than a little surface rust from a leaking boot that have since replaced.

Thanks for the tips. So...I was reading some other threads and replies, and noticed some say that a single surface drive can get pretty crazy at high speed??? How high. I have a 1990 28' Solution, which is almost exactly like the old formula bottom. Would I be safe doing 80 or 85 in this with one drive? I guess I need to upgrade and maybe show you guys some pics.
