This is according to Johnny Tomlinson, and he should know.
You may want to recheck this.
As far as number of boats built a yr. MTI only delivered 12 last fiscal yr. This year will be more like 18 give or take a little.
Look who is running in super cat, I don't see any skaters.
CRC just set another record and Abrams just won his first race in almost 2 yrs in his second race after going to MTI.
I do like Skater and think that they build a nice machine, I just prefer the MTI and wanted to post a few facts.

PS: I think everyone is right in that you should be comparing a 42 MTI and the 40 skater.

how many MTI's you think are built a year?

the MTI will be way faster (42 or 39) than the 40 skater with the same power... look at CRC/Reliable/Bacardi... what are they running? MTI's.... what is david scott building for his turbine boat? MTI... Skater builds a nice boat, but Peter has fallen behind in hull design, will he better his designs? probably.... but right now he is clearly behind....

a 42 RP MTI with 1350's will be insane fast...

a 42 RP with 1075's will break 160 in pleasure form...

My current boat has the four bucket seats and is has the small cockpit similar in size to the MTI. It can be real pain. The top speed thing is not critical in Poker Runs and pleasure boating. How often do you need to go 160+ at a Poker Run? If you can run 120-140 and stay in the throttle very few boats will stay with you anyway. I think I am leaning towards a Skater flat deck. I am learning the running surface of the 39 MTI is much shorter than 39' which may include that overhang. Maybe a 42 MTI is a better comparison.

Brad, Bob Morgan has a nice used flat deck 40' Skater for sale. It is a former race boat. He ran it at the Shoot-out this year.

You should compare the 39 to the 36 skater. The 40 is not the best performing boat peter builds. The 36 will run circles around it as will the 46.

I have had all three and would get another 36 in a second.

Look at who is winning in SC Lite. If there were rough water races the skaters would be taking there share of the victories.

I can remember the first MTI, it delaminated at every rough water race.

Look who wins Key West.

Nortech has unmatched styling, much better ride in rough water than the skater and MTI. has alot more cockpit room, and has nice cabin for poker runs, have demo'd my 36 to 3 buys who were looking at skaters, and all said they were more comfortable and felt smoother in rough water than the skater. Randy makes an awesome boat if you just want for fast, pure race, and no cabin or cockpit room. Nortech will build carbon fiber also. the boat with 1150's will still bust 160mph, very few places you can run that fast anyway. Daves MTI is actually a 39 modified to 40. Dont see any new skaters at Loto, but am seeing several Nortechs and Mti's. The final asset of the Nortech is that it is about 100k less money than Skater and MTI. insurance is very attainable on the Nortech up to around 850 hp, but a mti with 1350's hold on, can you say 16-20k year for insurance, that is if you have 3 years cat experience with a perfect record and no claims.
