They are unreal looking. Looks like a #6 bottom (made out of solid chunk of alloy) with a single ram for trim at an angle going into it. I believe you need the same tranny set up that a #6 needs. I heard they are stronger than a #6 BTW.

http://www.weismann.net/wmd.html

Weismann Marine Drive Design Specs:
WMD
It was designed to handle 1600 lbft of torque, diesel, gasoline, and turbine power.
315 lbs for the Drive and Gimbal - Lower polar moment, better handling.
Two Stage Integral Dry Sump System - High efficiency, light weight oil.
Rotates in either direction - Drive direction is handled in an internal drop box.
15.0" X-Dimension from input to output - Lower center of gravity.
Steerable and Trimable - Strong, identical steering and trim rams.
Spur Gear Drive - Greater efficiency at a substantially lower cost.
Serviceable on the boat - Low maintenance, easy to work on, no special tools.
Skeg is a Wedge shaped - Hydrodynamically more stable at high speeds.
All parts are CNC machined in our factory - High quality and high precision.

Plus or minus 20 degress of steering.
7 degrees of negative trim and 26 degrees of positive trim.
The prop shaft is a speed master style 26 T 16/32.
The drive can be run sub-surface or full surface.
The drive can be run with fixed steering and no skeg for speed.
Housings are hard anodized and painted for corrosion protection.
Low internal parts count.

Re: Weismann drives?

I only heard about them because I saw some on a Skater at the desert strom poker run. He ran 171 that day......His are just brushed aluminum, looks like a massive chunk of metal hanging off the back.

There is a SCOPE member who has them on a 36 Nortech. My understanding is he is only having problems with them.

Yea isn't that all Sorcerer runs with those monster Racecrafter motors?

These are some pretty amazing drives. I bought a pair for my 36 but never used them. They are brand new, still in the shipping crates, and include some very impressive gimballs. Since I plan on selling my 36 now, these drives are for sale for only $40K including all hardware, dropboxes, and gimballs.

What gear ratio are they. How much to change to 1.5 ratio.I know yours has to be close to 1to1. :D

KiloKat 08-31-2005 09:21 AM

Re: Weismann drives?

The dropboxes are setup for quickchange ratios. I have two different ones but will have to check on the exact ratios. 1.5 to 1 would not be a problem.

Gentry Racing on the POPRA series runs em, i have never seen a drive break on his boat. Motors thats another story.

Unless he changed his drives, the Sorcerer is running Arneson 8's.

Weismann used to have another drive which reached further behind the boat like the Arneson. It was still a Z drive though. It's my understanding that drive did not have reverse rotation capability.

I was referring to Sorcerers speeds doesn't that boat run around 170.

Can you tell me how old they are? Are they swept back skegs? Do they have the older style flat or the 6a type top? Thank you

The Sorcerer has run `181 mph and that was at 61 percent. I have heard those motors and they are way naughty. Predator has 1400 hp twin whipple motors in her. Hunter

By far the nastiest sounding motor I've ever heard in a boat. :evilb:
