Re: Just got back from Biloxi/GulfPort/Bay St Loius Area
Sorry it has taken so long to report back. I have been back and forth the area for the last few days. Things are getting better, the community is keeping it's strong commitment to recover. Page Racing is in place in Gulfport to serve as a Family Assistabce Center, a place where families with missing loved ones can go to be counciled and pass on information to aid in the search for them. Nichols Offshore is positoned in the Long Beach/Pass Christian area, which was leveled, doing the same as well as WHM locating in Biloxi tonight. Several race teams including these have brought or sent an unbelievable amount of donated items from their respective communities. Gary Hargove, Harrison County Coroner, advised in the latest press conference (9-8-05) that there were 151 fatalities in a six county area along the coast. Considering the magnitude of the storm this is very low, although one is too many. It would take me a week to list all of the agencies that are providing aid to the area and if you are part of one of these you will never know what it means to this community. I have been in the field and in the EMA loop and the plan to return to some type of normalcy is comming to be. The plan to have residents return to their homes is slowly being put into place due to several areas that are still just unsafe to have civilians in. There are still residents that are in need for assistance and any and all donations are being recieved and disributed as soon as they are recieved.
If you have a loved one that is in the area and they can't be contacted or located, you can call the Harrison County Coroners Office at 228-865-4290 and someone with the Family Assistance Center will be able to contact you and assist in your search.
