2005 Key West Worlds
 

My wife is taking me to the worlds for my birthday. We arrive the 18th and leave the 20th. I've been by boat before, but never by land. A few questions for the Key West veterans.

- Who's going?
- Where can I rent a scooter?
- Will there be scooter races?
- I'm staying at the Hampton Inn which is no where near the action. Anybody have a line on something that's closer to Duval and is reasonable?
- I've watched the races from the Hyatt bulkhead. Where are other good places to watch up close and personal?
- Where's the OSO party??????
- Any other tips (besides drink a lot and have a blast)?

this thread made me remember to book my airline reservations Thankfully I was able to get two direct flights to Miami on the 14th-21st using frequent flyer miles:D I can't wait :drink: Do we want to do tee shirts again????

That's another factor...looks like we may be the only ones from Lake Murray going to the races. :( The rest of the group are making plans to attend the Miami Boat Show. We'll see...we haven't completely ruled out KW just yet.

I've tried booking flights today from DC to the Keys. The cost for the times I need for a three day weekend are making the cost prohibitive. How long of a drive is it from Miami?

If memory serves me correctly around 3 hours or less if there is no traffic For the most part it is a nice drive and you can always stop mid way on one of the keys to enjoy a nice lunch. It seems that by the time you change flights and wait around airports it takes just as much time, plus you are always at risk of a flight being delayed or something. The only draw back is you need to rent a car, I think a ground shuttle winds up costing as much as a car if there are 2 of you. We always drive.

is RA going ( I hope so) I thought this was the year of the big trip to Italy or some place in Europe. So RG are you booked, what days will you be there??

It takes a good 3 to 4 hours to get down through the Keys. Add another hour to Miami......If I leave my house it tkaes me 4 hours to get to Ft. Lauderdale then another 4 hous to get to Key West. That's pulling a boat tho.....Dave

I think he is inquiring on time from the Miami airport. Hopefully since we are coming in on Tuesday all the race boats will already be there, and we will not be stuck behind all you slugs :D

We are flying from Balt to Ft Lauderdale. It's about 145 miles to KW from FLL. Figure a 4 hour drive.

I know...it sucks BIG TIME!!! :mad: Trust me, Wigginout would love to do both trips but, it doesn't seem to be going that way! Oh well, gotta do what ya gotta do! :(

I think hes goin in October but I could be wrong.

We will be there Weds to monday. Hotela nd flights are all booked .. cant wait!!! I hope I see you before then. Will you guys be hittin the islands for Holloween? Let me know the next time your gonna be over there. I was up Sunday but we never made it to Kellys :(

Who are you going to the Keys with. We will not be back to the islands this year, next weekend we will be at the Fall Poker run on the Detroit River & Lake Saint Clair, and that might be it for the season. We had fun on Kellys on Sunday, did you hear Steph (Roger's GF) broke her arm during our golf cart poker run :(

Yes I did! I think Ill be with Roger and Steph this weekend on the Lake Erie Hot Rod Run on the other side of the Lake.

Birdog and I will get to KW on weds. We dont want to miss OutlawCowgirls wedding. Then Thrillseeker, Donzi and JOJO (Jason Kunkel) will be there on friday.

my advice is to arrive by Wed the 16th and leave on Monday the 21st. This way you will make all the parties and see the main racing

Since 1992, this has been the most frustrating experience.

We have airfare already booked, but can't find 2 rooms. FPC has all the rooms blocked out at the nice hotels. :( Worse case scenario, we'll do the Caribbean in January.
