From: New York, NY - Manhattan BABY!
I believe that the bar atop of the Metropolitan Museum of Art (5th Avenue from 80th Street to 84th Street) is closing after October 31st. It is worth visiting. The 'suggested' entry fee to the Met is $15 each. But, it is a suggestion. If you're just going up for a drink, pay them $5. Believe me, the Met will make it up on the drink prices!
Trypical tourist stuff includes, the ice skating at Rockefeller Center (I'm looking out my window as I write this and the tourists seem to be enjoying the rink, which re-opened last week). Other activities you might consider include; visiting the shops and restaurants at the new Time Warner Center on Columbus Circle, grabbing a burger at Burger Joint in the Parker Meridien hotel (it was in GQ as one of the 10 best burgers in America), having sushi at Sushi Den (there are 3 locations, but T2x prefers the one on the North side of 49th at Madison Ave) and having a drink at Beekman Tower (overlooks the UN - so you can praise it or spit on it
). I'd also recommend walking along the water at Carl Shurz Park (where the mayor's mansion is located) as well as having lunch at the 79th Street Boat Basin (79th and Riverside) which is probably closing soon for the season.
Lastly, as an OSO member, contact DaveP to make certain you and your wife get some coupons for some 'extra attention' from NYC's official goodwill ambassadors at LACE!!

the owner was the head waiter at Peter Lugers for 20 something years and his steaks are awesome!
