Yup, wood and rocks just don't mix well. That has to be a total loss, how could you patch that much and make it strong. I bet the engines fell out the bottom.

OMG, that's just mortifying. I can't imagine the repair costs. With the whole rear hull breached/missing, that is a true testament of how well it was built to keep afloat.

It's a shame, that's for sure. Acajou is a classic Jon Bannenberg design and Andre Mauric naval architecture built by Chantiers Esterel in France, the undisputed leader in wood construction at that time. Sadly, the shipyard also went bust a few years ago so I don't think any original craftsmen are around to put the thing back together.

However, I believe they are trying to rebuild her and they are claiming it will cost around $ 3 million. I doubt this will be enough as the engineroom was submerged. At some point, she was actually put up for sale "as is, where is" for around $ 500 000 but since there were no takers, they are now trying to rebuild her. I hope they do as she is a classic, a very well-known yacht in the Med.

As for the storm, it apparently was quite something. I believe 6 yachts actually sank and two cars were crushed when the outer wall collapsed and waves sent slabs of concrete flying.
