Ext'd Warranty & Ethics Question
#13
Think about the cost of a broken drive, if you break one drive after one year but before you void your warranty with the Raylar kit it will have paid for itself. If you break more than that you are making money.
I think I'd pay the extra even though it was their mistake.

Doing a job now where we missed something on the bid. We are eating it & making sure we do not make this mistake again.

I wonder if Sydwayz will chime in on this one. I'd like to hear what he thinks of Merc's extended warranty program.

I would have him prove to you that this is the difference by some means of documentation from merc and then offer to split it in half. He made the mistake. You paying half makes you feel better. win win or loose loose depends on how you look at it.

I sell the Brunswick Product Protection the the pricing for the 8.1 and the 8.1 HO are the same. The original price he gave you was $205 over his cost which was a GREAT deal for you. It is unfortunate that he is now trying to guilt you into paying more. I have sold warranties for 14 years and am a firm believer. I have seen many large claims paid not to mention the value of being able to transfer to a subsequent owner. The key to customer satisfaction on these is to fully explain what the policy does or does not cover and not to over-sell the coverage.

Having a warranty and getting repairs done under warranty are 2 different things!! I lost a drive that was under warranty. Merc said it was a "high speed shifting error" and would not cover it. The marina I bought the boat from was no help. I paid to have the drive rebuilt and after 10 min. it blew again, beyond repair!! Guess what......not covered!!!! Fortunately I had a friend who had a friend at Merc. who pulled some strings and got me a new drive. He said it should have been covered in the first place!!! Merc will do anything to weasle out of warranty work!!
