What kind of high perf drive do you run

I need to upgrade my drives so I was wondering what you run on your rig. Please tell me what drive and how much power you are putting thru it.

Smitty,

Contact Dick Tryce, AKA "Mr. Gadgets" here on the board.

He is up in Holland Michigan and builds some really bullet proof drives.

One of the famous right now is the Baja in the LOTO shoot out at 109MPH with 1100+ HP.

I know a lot of people very happy with his work. I think he uses a lot of Max machine Worx stuff in the really tuff ones.

Good luck

This is what I'm talking about. IMO the Max Machine may be the better of the Bravo upgrades.

Although not listed, I am running a Bravo XR/IMCO -2 Lower with 700 ft/lbs in front of it.
Drive was assembled by Chris Martin at Sterndive Specialist.
I treat it nicely. No problems in two seasons (40 hours).

I can't believe the number of non bravo drives?

What kind of money are we talking for some of these non bravos?

Is it true the value of a rig decreases with anything other than a bravo?

Any other drives work with a bravo transom assembly?

How difficult to get parts for some others?

Max Machine worx drive-944hp/962 ft lbs tq 5000 lb boat, something STILL breaks every 75 hours or so BUT it is a fact of life with hi tq. Ive broke parts in lower last couple of times so keep in mind a B-max lower uses the same style parts and will break just as easily too,Smitty

Want tough?? These SCS Sage #8 drives can handle 1500hp. Like an Arneson to the tenth. Drive has lift + - 4". And only weights 350 !! A # 6 drive weighs 520 lbs.

Like buying a set of # 6's. The pic he posted is of a 46 Skater race boat. The boat was originally equipped with Arnesons. Only changed due to steering issues.

Very nice to change X-dimension with a flick of a switch.

Here's some pricing I have found:

Stock XR's from Bam marine 7695.00 ea
Imco sc extreme 9800.00 ea plus options
B-Max 12,500 ea or takeoffs at 8900.00ea
Teague Platinum 8900.00 ea
Max Machine Worx Nothing is cheap except the older XR's for 6895.00 ea
Older XR upper only is 3695.00 ea

Max Machine Worx Kevlar Top Gun with 850+ per side , blew starboard twice this summer, at 45 hrs then at 9 hrs. and that was being very very careful with the sticks.
We are taking some boost out next summer.
I run #6 dry sumps on my Cat with 850s no issues in 120hrs!
I have come to the conclusion in speaking with several friends with similar rigs that beefed up Bravos are only good for 700 hp or so , and that they all use similar components. Good Luck!

Re: What kind of high perf drive do you run

IMCO Exterem SC' here... blew two uppers this year (both port and stbd drive). First was at 20 hrs, second at 25-30 hrs, 720 hp in a 10,500lb boat running conservatively.

I'd go with the MaxMachine or Bmax if you wanted a bravo type drive. Problem is, all of them, except for the BMax upper use the merc gears.

Other than the top cap, the XR is just as good as any other drive with the exception of the shafting, if you get XR's have them set up and get an aftermarket top cap to tie it all togeher.

Bigger is better when it comes to torque. I learned my lesson the hardway and I don't have as much power as some of the others who have posted here.

Great package but #6s will still carry a higher resale value
on your investment.Maybe not enough press going around about scs.Every time they invent something new the rules change in racing so no one can race it.I think the mercury
gods control the market.
