whipple out of business??
I have called several times the last two weeks and cannot get dustin or anyone else to call me back for tech support. The girl answering the phone says they are still in business but I get the feeling she is the only one there.

Re: whipple out of business??
I talked with Dustin a few weeks ago. I left a message with my number and he called me back a few hours later. Real nice guy and he gave me alot of good advice!

Product is pretty good...........tech support sucks (my experiance). |
Re: whipple out of business??
I have left several messages and no return call. I asked if there is anyone else that can give tech support on the marine whipples and she always tell me that dustin is the only one. I don't want to get caught holding a whipple product if they are out of business and have no support.

Re: whipple out of business??
Yeah,
I went a few rounds with Whipple also. Your right about support. Dustin is the only one that can answer any questions. There's a guy name Keith that can help with a few small things but for the most part you gotta catch Dustin when he's in the office. My builder had a few problems getting a hold of Dustin also. I had to call and we bothed tag teamed him till we got what we needed out of him. Thats when my builder decided to go with a guy in in Kenner L.A. who's suppose to be jam up on tweeking the fuel mapping and other things to get the computer right. Don't get me wrong, I've had my Whipple for 4 +_ years and have never had any issues with it. Dustin and the gang put out a jam up product. Most of the time we called to talk with Dustin he was out of town tweeking on other motors. He's got a great product they just need a few more reliable , knowledgable techs for help when he's not there. I'm waiting to see what my new engine combo pulls on the dyno. We pulled to 4500rpm before it started leaning out and made 570HP. Were a far cry from the 53 to 5400 I plan on running. I'm hopeing to see close to 675HP! :D :D |

Re: whipple out of business??
I have no use for a product without tech support. I dont care how good it is.Chasing people to answer questions about their own product SUCKS!

Re: whipple out of business??
ordered a kit for the 525, in November of 04. come the end of February still did'nt have it. my customer started to think i spent his money, and never ordered the Whipple. come to pass never got the kit. put the engine back together. ended up doing nothing.
another customer was lost due in part of a similar situation, who as well thought i was full of it. that situation did not end as well a the first. low and behold i learned what was stated previously, in that a product is only as good as it's support. being a small business i could somewhat understand how a person could fall behind when they blow-up as Whipple did. and how critical finding quality help and having understanding people around you actually is. good luck to you. |
Re: whipple out of business??
I see them in vegas every year this time for sema show. Might try this week as show ended friday and they all should be back to work at least!
|
Re: whipple out of business??
I sent a few things back about 4 months ago. I am still awaiting my credit. Maybe there is no money left ???
I guess I will try to get a hold of Dustin again tomorrow. |
Re: whipple out of business??
It's a shame if they're out of business or somthing like that. They make a great product. I called a while ago with some questions and the only guy to talk to was Dustin...and he was usually hard to reach. :( Doesn't make much sense to me business wise to not have tech support available.

Thats the guy! :D My builder got the ECM back and we will be back on the dyno this week.

Re: whipple out of business??
Dustin was at SEMA all last week...
They are not out of business and Dustin has always answered any question I've asked (very acurately BTW) even when it hasn't pertained to his product  Last I was told is 2.3L stuff will be available this month and 3.3L stuff in December. Could be worse, try calling ProCharger for some help :evilb: :evilb: Dave |
Re: whipple out of business??
Too bad the girl answering the phone didn't know where he was. Could have avoided all of this.
Whipple makes a great product, they need more technicians. |
Re: whipple out of business??
I started calling him a couple of weeks before sema. yesterday she said dustin was there and she would have him call me. No call.
|
Re: whipple out of business??
He returned my e-mail a few weeks ago but has not returned my phone call.

Re: whipple out of business??
OK guys, thanks for the encouraging words, really. To the ones that don't know the circumstances, our SC supplier, Lysholm put us in a severe situation. By May of 05', Lysholm was over 3000 units behind!! It's hard for a SC company to stay in business without SC's! It's hard to make payroll, it's hard to help consumers, it's hard to grow.
We made a decision (in Feb.) to cut as much as possible and do our very best to handle customers during these hard times. We went from 35 employee's to 8. We are now back to 13 employee's but certainly not enough. It's pretty simple, we could've just closed the doors and saved a severe amount of $$, then started a new company with the same products when they were available. But every week we operate in a loss to help customers. Some may think there is another reason, but thats the only reason. Trust me, it's very discouraging. So if you think customers are getting the shaft, that's simply a stupid, uneducated thing to say and I take offense to that. I'm working my tail off, doing everything I can (don't forget we are in the automotive market as well) to help current customers and help prepare for our future. I am one person, taking too many calls, handling too many things, but we don't currently have another choice. If you have a question or problem, email me, [email protected]. I can't call everybody back and do everything I'm doing, it's pretty simple. I'm sorry that this has happened, but it's 100% out of our control, we did not foresee the shortage and the problems it caused. It kills me everyday that I could sale product, help a customer, whatever it is, but what choice do I have? I have spent countless hours, for years on this site as well as many others answering tech questions, problems, etc. for customers that don't even have our product, but now, during these hard times, our support sucks, very nice. Many think it's Mercury or something like that, but that really has nothing to do with it. We take nearly 5000 a year, Mercury utilizes approx. 10% of that. Its far more simple, Lysholm had trouble with vendors, fell behind and then created a serious delay by switching vendors, dealing with the board and getting cash flow for start-up cost. Teague is not the "Lysholm" distributor, according to our contract, we are still the only authorized distributor. It's far more difficult than that at this point, but I can't really go into those details. There will be product available very soon, we are fulfilling back orders starting next week and will continue until mid December. Our current plan is to fulfill "new" orders in Jan. For those that have stuck by us during this troubled time and truly know our commitment to quality and support, will certainly benefit from our new products and restructured company. We will be back, bigger and better than ever, thats a promise. Thank you Dustin Whipple PS Keith went to work for the railroad, union job, it was a great opportunity that he couldn't pass up. |
Re: whipple out of business??
Awesome. Looking forward to your new products.

Re: whipple out of business??
Good to hear from you, Dustin, best of luck.
 |
Re: whipple out of business??
Dustin,
Thanks for the great reply to the OSO crowd. At some point we will be ready to beef up our 500 efi's and believe me with everything we have read and heard about you, your company and your commitment to service you will be our first phone call. Thanks |
Re: whipple out of business??
Thanks guys.
I again wanted to state, WE ARE NOT GOING OUT OF BUSINESS!! That was just to go against the rumors of the industry. We easily could've taken customers money and used that to help "float" until we got product, but we did nothing of the kind. We have maintained, during this difficult time, 100% on our own. I hope that shows our committment. Thanks |
Re: whipple out of business??
Best of Luck Dustin,
Looking forward to seeing you and your company get back in the groove. :evilb: |

Re: whipple out of business??
Thanks for posting Dustin.
I have a quad rotor setup and I can say that I am extremely happy with them and their performance. :D |
Re: whipple out of business??
Dustin,
I sent some items back to you some time ago for credit. Being a small business owner once I truly understand cashflow or sometimes the lack of it, but expenses are there every month. I have not bothered you about the credit as I had some idea that something was not right on your end. I am NOT in dire need of that refund at this point. I LOVE YOUR PRODUCT and would have nothing else !! Please do me a favor and when things get rolling again and cashflow is going in the right direction, please issue me my credit. Until then consider it my contribution to keeping things going. David Smith Chicago IL [email protected] |

Did you know who this person was? Can't get the computer right if you don't know the product. |
Re: whipple out of business??
Glad your ok dustin
|
Re: whipple out of business??
Dustin; You had a good product with the Sweedish SC supplier "autorotor" what ever happened to that relationship ? You worked with Keith Eickert and made an early set of quad blower for "Riveted" race boat - We had plenty of bugs but things were working out -

Re: whipple out of business??
Great to hear that things are pulling together. My 496 is screaming for a boost!

Re: whipple out of business??

Re: whipple out of business??
Glad to here things are looking up for you Dustin. I was pretty well conviced to go with a new engine over a rebiuld and a whipple because of info I had recieved from this and other sites.
I am still on the fence and won't be doing anything untill next winter, but at least I will concider a Whipple agian. Good luck, and I know all too well about keeping a small company afloat during less than perfect times.. |
