Why the he11 would you take the lanyard off, if you to stand up attatch it to your shorts?? I mean how dumb, Hey I am willing to bet $100.00 he doesn't own that ski, if it was his 9K ski I bet he would have kept it on.

Definately staged. Look at the wake when there supposedly isn't a rider...there's way too much roost, like the guy is dragging on the other side of the ski. Also, when he first falls off, you can see the ski stopping before they start the next filming sequence.
