Question Small Cigarette boat question?

If you put a 425hp small block in a Cig 20 with a Bravo drive and 280 K-planes, would you have to run hydraulic steering?

Thanks...

No, but it would be a nice feature.

Put a complete Latham set-up on it. It's nice to be able to point the boat where you actually want to go. I'm starting my '77 20 project right after the holidays. Going TURBINE baby!

You should definetlly put in on that setup. It will be safer and make the boat track and handle much better.

My 18' Sutphen has a 330hp small block and Volvo 290 drive. It was a handful until I added hydraulic steering. Less fighting with the steering wheel. One finger steering most of the time. My suggestion...do it right from the git-go.

I would not feel safe in that boat with that setup W/O hydraulic steering.

Are you suicidal by nature? I built a 20 years ago with a twin turbo, never did dyno it, but it ran about 80. The boat owner eventuality wound up pitching himself out of the boat. I would say it is mandatory. I will say it was one gas to drive.

It almost took the fun out of driving mine when I installed Mayfair full hyd steering. It made the boat predictable.

Thanks for the replies. I agree that having a single ram is the way to go, I was just thinking about cost.

How fast would a Cig 20 go with 425hp?
