Did Scarab ever make a 50' hull?
Saw a boat that said scarab on it at loto on blocks, did'nt know they made a 50' its not rigged, would it be worth anything? owner wants to get rid of it before they put the overpass in right over top of it.

Re: Did Scarab ever make a 50' hull?
Scarab Meteor = 50'. Don't know anything about them, other than that they are huge.
|
Re: Did Scarab ever make a 50' hull?
HUGE is right. I was at a boat auction in NJ about 2 years ago, and they had a 50' Scarab with triple gas motors. They claim it was Vince McMahon's of WWF fame. It didn't sell......I couldn't imagine paying the gas bill back then

Re: Did Scarab ever make a 50' hull?
The Wellcraft 50' Scarab Meteor was also available with Caterpillar diesels.
It was in production from 1987 to 1992. She has a 9' 4" beam and with triple gas and TRS weighed around 14,000 lbs. Arnesons came with the 420 hp 3208 TA Cats. I don't know if Larry Smith built any of these. |

Re: Did Scarab ever make a 50' hull?
i think wellcraft used the name on this model to go after the people who wanted both worlds, big and heavy, not exactly fast though

Re: Did Scarab ever make a 50' hull?
One of the wildest things I ever saw at a race- A car dealer here used to have one of those with triple 454 420's in it. Ran about 60-which in 1990 wasn't too shabby. Well tech tells him he cant race unless the windshield is covered or removed. So they decide to remove it-with a hammer. Just broke the sucker off, right there in the parking lot, thousands of dollars worth of windshield. He had a state of the art nav system in this thing and word was he ran the whole race on autopilot. I never saw him throttle it, just left them on the stops and let it eat :D

Re: Did Scarab ever make a 50' hull?
That was a waste to destroy that windshield. Foam and duct tape would have satisfied the officials.

Re: Did Scarab ever make a 50' hull?

Re: Did Scarab ever make a 50' hull?
YES, There was one 50' SCARAB Built by Team Scarab in california.
The hull and deck were built in Orange County, Then it was moved to the "SKUNK" Works in Ventura Ca. to be removed from the mold and the Hull and deck were glassed and some rigging was done. The molds then went back to O.C. and the Boat went to Corona Ca.for Final full rigging. The Boat was done for the Drambuie Company in Scotland and was raced around the British Isles and set and number of True Offshore records. The Boat met a untimely end on the Railroad tracks in Miami Florida when the driver towing it got it High Centrered on the railroad tracks and when he went to call for help it got hit by a train. TRUE STORY The Mold was cut up to make the Bottom for a 63ft SCARIB. The SCARIB a Ridged Bottom Inflatable was never finished as far as I know. The End.....Mike J. |

Re: Did Scarab ever make a 50' hull?
A buddy has one here on the upper Mississippi river. I believe it's an 87 or something close to that. Trip 420's with TRS and runs 55mph tops. The cockpits are relatively small for the that size boat, but the cabin if enourmous.

There's a 46 Larry Smith in the classifieds. Looks like it could be a fast boat with the right power.

Twin 300hp's Ford Sabre diesels SSM #3. The 50' Scarab is a 57mph boat!! not bad. 22' Bravo's made that boat much more lighter than before |
Re: Did Scarab ever make a 50' hull?
That's been sitting there, uncovered, forever.
But then again, it's not like Scarabs were known for stringer or transom rot issues when left out like that. :p

Re: Did Scarab ever make a 50' hull?
Gary its funny, same thing with the one in my area, its been out in the elements for years with ripped green tarp. Its not like we get any rain or snow in NH or anything! I ran the rot issue by the owner when I bumped into him a month ago and he thought I was nuts.
