Default What would you do?

Last October I took my boat to a repair shop to get an estimate for some gel work. I thought the price that the guy gave me was too high so I took my boat to another place. The next quote was much more in line with what I thought it should cost and he was highly recommended by other people so I gave him the job. The boat turned out great.

The other day my daughters boyfriend asked me if a picture that he found in his towns newspaper was of my boat. There is no mistaking that it is a picture my boat.

The funny part is the picture was taken outside of the guys shop that gave me the first estimate that I refused. There is a 9 paragraph write up welcoming this guys business to the community and suggesting people take there boats and cars to him for repair, upgrades and installations. The paper even suggested to see pictures of his work by visiting his web sight.

So I did and there's the same picture of my boat on the home page of his site. There is no place that states that he did work on my boat but it sure is implied. He also has a boat at the same marina where I am and he does a lot of advertising there also.

Obviously, he never asked for my permission to use the picture and I'm not sure that he is obligated to do so but I think it would have been a nice courtesy to ask anyway.

What do you think?

It's a little oily, but I wouldn't spend much time worrying about it.

Next time you need some work done, tell him he owes you for all the advertising you and your boat have done for him.Seriously!

I'm not worried about it. Actually it's sort of a compliment.

I take pictures of other boats all the time but if I was going to use one to advertise my business, I would get it OKed first.

I think a sign in front of my boat at the marina thanking the guy that did the work would be in order this year. Just to keep the credit in the proper place.

Thats not your boat. Your boat is yellow

I think it would upset me a little that he didn't ask me first and I would have told him NO because he didn't do the work.

I would call him and ask him to take it off his site or you will run an add in the same news paper about what happened and someone else did the work. It will disappear pretty fast. I wouldn't care what it cost to run the ad it's just the point of the hole thing.

pm203 has a pretty good point. If you don't need anything painted I was thinking about doing my drives and extension box's, I'll bring them right up.

I hope your coming to the boat show, Betty and I want to hear about your trip.

Nice! You have a nice boat and he decided to use it to his advantage. Those in the know will always go to Captain Nabber and not SanBob(sp). A nice sign over your lift would do the trick.
