This is a 23 foot boat with a single big block that carried the famous "Larry Smith" of ......."That's not a Scarab, that's a Larry Smith Scarab!"

How old is John now anyway and how is is health? His knowledge of the sport is unmatched I would think? What a great guy and simply unforgetable. My fathers racing misadventures just used to crack him up to no end. Hi Les......No, SEARACE is the same as originally published. John is working on a new book now, that will not be like SEARACE, as that was loaded with statistics....this new one will be loaded with stories of all the characters, good and bad, from this sport. John's health is fine, he is very focused on his new book and puts in pretty hard days on the research etc. |

Yes, the waters of the ocean do get tough and can sink race boats. This is the famous sinking Bertram 36 sequence.
The running shot shows the delamination starting on the bottom behind the prop shaft. The next shot shows how having just one bilge pump sometimes isn't enough. The last shot shows how these old racers never lost their cool....still has his sunglasses on and is thinking that, maybe Top Sider's could use this floating shoe as a good advertisement for their products. |

Re: Save the Old Race Boats
Ed,
We need to get our common friend to ask his wife Mickie to fire up the computer for him so he can check out these old raceboat photo's. |
