Re: Save the Old Race Boats
I somehow stumbled onto this site and am having major flashbacks.
My uncle is Jack Stuteville of good old Bob & Jacks Custom Marine (Miami), and seeing these old boats are really bringing back amazing memories. I have fond memories of weekends at Bob & Jacks, messing around in the shop as a punk 5-8 year old. He built and/or throttled boats like Dry Martini, Bertram 49er, Michelob Light (single hull and cat) Seahawk, and others I that don't remember. Again, amazing memories and some not so good memories (when he and Joel Halpern rolled the Michelob Light cat, killing Joel). Someone was asking about David Irwin. He wa a family friend who passed away about 10 years after a long, tough-faught battle with diabetes/kidney transplant and eventual failure. He is missed and was amazingly talented. . . he built a GN boat with my uncle, and my uncle raced it for Mike Gordon (of Mike Gordon's Seafood Restaurant). Anyways, Uncle "Jake" currently lives in Saint Augustine. I am happy to see that there is such great interest in the glory years of offshore racing. Chris |
Re: Save the Old Race Boats
Correction:
Not Dry Martini, but Black Tornado with Vicenzo Ballestreri. I am being told by a family member that he built or raced Alitalia Uno with Guido Nicoli, Conspiracy with Allen Allweis, built SlapShot for Snapper Norris and Rocky Aoki's first Benihana. |

Re: Save the Old Race Boats
Gentlemen, as a newer racing fanatic, I absolutely LOVE the threads with the older pics and stories. HOPRA is an excellent idea and I can't wait to see some of these boats in person.

CMAC....Welcome to the board.
I remember Jack very well.....he was always a good hard racer and a fun guy to be around too. Mike Gordon was also my introduction to the sport back in 1963, Your uncle was driving SK boats back then, along with Bill Sirois and some of the other future offshore guys. Here are some shots of Jack driving Mike's boat Fish Peddler, and Mike and Jack after the race. |
