From my understanding at least 5 mph. However, it depends on your prop set up as well. If you are already at the rev limiters you will see zip improvement.

I read somewhere that the swept skeg really only helps at high speeds, 95-100 +.... And on lake champlain at that speed you were hardly in the water and Byrd was holding on for dear life...:D

Herring quoted $2200 to do the conversion on the early style.
The skeg and bullet is actually thicker on the early non dry sumps. My understanding is going to the swept back is good for about 3mph up top. Dont know what the dry sumps are worth in speed.

Oh yeah JC thanks for those early style converted dry sump 6,s ya sold me last night from that Dude in Va. Sh@t! I hope He,s not a member here. :evilb: :D

Your not putting 6s on Fever are ya????

Motely Crew ran the 6s off Kurt's old CUV race boat with the old style skeg. Go figure. Not sure if they were dry sumped or not, but they were defently old and well broken in before they got them.

Bravos are on Fever now  I am debating shooting the lock off my wallet and buying a dry sump 6 for my boat. :D

Debating??? I thought you took take of that already.

What's going in the old Dragon Lady? That was the very first canopy boat in B class. I think the only US canopy vee prior to then was Inxs.

A 1994 Fountain hull still racing. This should be an interesting year with OPA sounds like a lot of interesting equipment is getting ready.

I have the 6 on my boat.It is a wet sump.If i could pick up a substantial gain going to dry sump i would do it.The Dragon Lady boat is turn key with 750 Supercat motors and dry sump 6s.It is ready for P2 action in OPA.It will be called "Armed and Dangerous" in memory of Al.Rumor has it that Peter Meyer might be racing the 40 Fountain in P2 also.

I don't think you'll get much in a single application and less in ocean water. Who you hunting for anyhow? :D

Armed and Dangerous, last time I saw them race was in 94 when Fever almost landed in thier cockpit coming around a turn.

I heard Bob Oliver is all over Pete to get Instigator ready. Now that should be a good team.

What are you running, your Activator or Fever?

I will mainly run my Activator. We will run Fever in a couple of races.I will run it with Joe Sgro.Joe Latona will be at the races as an advisor :drink: :drink: I was in Fever when we almost hit Armed and Dangerous in 93 FT lauderdale

Re: Dry sump vs. Wet sump #6s

On a 32 skater I had with wet sumps and a round skeg, about 139mph the ass end would start to move around. Jerry Gilbreath told me to convert to dry as well as a Herring swep skeg. Not only did it haul ass, but went straight as an arrow. He once told me that he found on the race boats that had round skegs back then, the ones that he at least ran, had handling issues at about 130. Cats that is. BTW, the price to convert to a swep skeg with herring, is a bit more then what's been posted.

Re: Dry sump vs. Wet sump #6s

I have a 32 skater with 800sc's and wet #6's that gets a little hairy over 125mph as well. I seldom go that fast so would not be benificial for me to convert to dry sumps & swept back, but good info to know. Very easy to cruise all day 4000rpm=100mph, wife prefers I stay under 100, also safer with 4 people on board.

Get a hold of ScottB he has a #6 for sale at a very good price. You should talk to Craig Colabella about the difference in conversion numbers. When he was our crew chief he was doing conversions for a lot of the race teams so I am sure he's got the numbers.

Yup, it was the Worlds in Ft Lauderdale. I guess it was as close as it looked. South end turn...

You sure it wasn't 94? I could almost bet on it.

Re: Dry sump vs. Wet sump #6s

JC,

Not really sure how much of a speed difference there would be but there will definitely be a difference compared to an older #6 compared to a drysump/swept back skeg #6. Not sure what the cost difference would be but if you can do it for minimal then go with the dry sump and the swept back skeg. I think Herring makes swept back skegs for the older sixes. Hope that helps you a liitle.
