very true ,however mercury programs their brains to run rich and dump extra fuel in the upper r.p.m to full throttle range in order to prolong the life of their engines. ever notice the black sut on the transoms of h.p 500 and h.p 525 boats? for the most part anyone with a single or twin 525 app. is gonna brick the thing all the time, so when it comes to grenading or dumping fuel to conserve life , merc chose the later.

I have owned both. My Zul 750,s always ran perfect with no problems. My 525,s run very nice as well. I still think that the Mercs have better resale and I know they are cheaper than the Zuls. I also know that the Zuls would have to be freshened up sooner than the Mercs. They are both great motors, just depends what you are looking for. By the way,.....how much for a pair of Zul 700,s these days?

Zul is one of those select few.
Trick hit it rite on the head. but with Merc you can never go wrong on resale.

Merc's are for a guy that want to go out for a slow cruise.
Zul's are for a guy that want to go out for a slow or fast cruise.
As for resale lets take the same 2 boats and see what one would sell first.

Rick,
While I would pay probably pay more for a Zul boat ,the general public ( not knowlegeable about Zul power) would probably walk away from that boat. Alot of people like the fact that there is probably a Merc dealer located very close to where they boat. Technically, a Zul powered boat should be worth more .However , I still think that there is more of a market for a stock Merc product and ultimately that boat would probably sell easier/faster than a Zul boat.

P.S. Dont forget, I,m talking about the gerneral public, not guys like you,me,tsg, etc.

I have heard of Joey Griffin. Dont know anything about his products.(which would hurt resale with me) Zul has been around for a long time and is proven. Zul is the king, (in my opinion) of non-merc power.
