I just replaced a 233 PII for a 1.4 PIV over christmas. both old and new are dell.

The older one was not horsepower limited, it was operating system challenged (Win 95), and I did not want to spend any money upgrading an old computer.

flylevel, 40-45k, you can now be quiet. On a good day I get 28.8, usually 26.4. When will they offer cable internet in my neighborhood???? They keep saying any month now, for the last 2 years!

jr, I had you beat! I WAS using a Gateway P 120 until about a month ago that we paid over $3000.00 for in 1996. I gaduated to a new Dell 8200 1.8 P4 with 512 ram. All of this coupled to DSL connection. I feel like I got out of a 17 ft. 4 cylinder Bayliner Capri into a 47 Fountain with triple 900 sc's.......Oh what a feeling!!

I'm like TC pentium 166 paid $2300 5 years ago. The new ones are so tempting along with DSL. One day maybe if and when this market comes back. Work has ?T1 line and that is great.

I am using a clone Cyrix 586. The mother board cost $79 two year ago, and the rest is scraps from the pile. The screen is so old it flashes to a shade of green ever now an then. But the DSL is great.
